Job Description: Controls Engineer This role focuses on developing and supporting vehicle control software for both unmanned and manned ground vehicles using MATLAB/Simulink and embedded controls development techniques. You will create and validate safety-critical software features, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure reliable performance across prototype and production vehicle programs. Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement vehicle control software for unmanned and manned ground vehicles using MATLAB/Simulink and embedded controls development techniques. Create clear and testable software requirements that align with system and vehicle-level performance and safety objectives. Perform software unit testing to verify functionality, identify defects, and ensure compliance with requirements and standards. Support integration testing activities to validate safe and reliable system performance in real-time embedded environments. Contribute to the development of safety-critical vehicle features, including vehicle controls, active safety systems, and real-time embedded software. Work cross-functionally with engineering, testing, and program teams to troubleshoot issues and resolve software and system-level problems. Maintain and manage software configurations to ensure consistency, traceability, and proper version control across projects. Support both prototype and production vehicle programs by providing software updates, debugging support, and technical guidance. Apply relevant standards, such as military standards, to embedded vehicle controls and software development where applicable. Travel up to approximately 20% of the time, including initial onsite work in Wisconsin, to support integration, testing, and collaboration with onsite teams. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science. At least 3 years of embedded controls or embedded software development experience. Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink model-based software development for vehicle controls. Proficiency in creating software requirements and executing software unit tests. Electric vehicle experience is a must Experience developing embedded vehicle controls, including real-time embedded software. Familiarity with military standards (MIL-STD) as they apply to software or embedded systems. Programming experience in C and/or C++ for embedded applications. Ability to work with SysML or similar model-based systems engineering tools. Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance, including meeting all eligibility and experience requirements. Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, including initial onsite work in Wisconsin. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with vehicle control systems for electric vehicles. Experience in active safety systems or other safety-critical automotive or defense applications. Prior experience supporting both prototype and production vehicle programs. Experience troubleshooting complex embedded systems in cross-functional environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in requirements and testing activities. Effective communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and program teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Warren, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
