3D Character Artist Internship

Location: Remote, Egypt only

Openings: 2

Position: 3D Character Artist Intern

Compensation: Unpaid during the three-month internship

Opportunity: An artist will transition into a paid full-time role based on performance, growth, and team fit

About the Role

We’re looking for one promising 3D Character Artist in Egypt who wants to grow professionally while contributing to a real Unity co-op game.

We’re not looking for a perfect CV or years of professional experience. What matters most is your artistic potential, communication, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback, and noticeable improvement throughout the internship.

You’ll begin with tasks suited to your current skill level and gradually take on more responsibility as you develop.

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on your experience and progress, you may work on:

  • Sculpting characters, faces, clothing, and accessories
  • Creating clean, game-ready topology
  • UV mapping, baking, and PBR texturing
  • Building character variations, equipment, and hair
  • Preparing models for rigging and animation
  • Optimizing characters for real-time performance
  • Importing and configuring character assets in Unity
  • Fixing clipping, deformation, topology, material, and texture issues
  • Revising your work based on feedback
  • Following the project’s file organization and production standards

The long-term goal is for you to become capable of taking a character from reference or concept to a finished, game-ready asset.

Guidance and Support

You won’t be expected to figure everything out alone.

You’ll receive practical guidance from a 3D Art Generalist who can review your work, answer questions, explain artistic and technical decisions, recommend better workflows, and help you understand what needs improvement.

You’ll still be expected to research, experiment, and make a serious effort to solve problems independently. However, when you’re stuck or need direction, you’ll have someone available to guide you through the problem.

What We Care About

Throughout the internship, we’ll evaluate:

  • Communication: Do you communicate clearly when you have questions or encounter problems?
  • Improvement: Does the quality of your work noticeably improve?
  • Consistency: Can the team rely on you to show up and make steady progress?
  • Feedback: Can you accept criticism and apply it effectively?
  • Problem solving: Do you research and attempt solutions before giving up?
  • Ownership: Can you gradually take responsibility for complete assets?
  • Team fit: Do you work well with the team’s process and artistic direction?

We don’t expect you to have all of these qualities fully developed from the beginning. We expect you to demonstrate that you can grow into them.

Basic Requirements

You should have:

  • Some experience creating 3D characters
  • A basic understanding of anatomy, proportions, form, and silhouette
  • Experience with Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or similar software
  • Experience with ZBrush, Blender Sculpting, or another sculpting tool
  • Basic knowledge of topology, UV mapping, baking, texturing, and PBR materials
  • A portfolio showing your current character-art skills
  • The ability to communicate consistently while working remotely
  • A genuine interest in becoming a professional 3D Character Artist

Experience with Unity, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, hair cards, rigging, skinning, LODs, or game-ready optimization is a bonus, not a requirement.

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is suitable for:

  • Fresh graduates
  • Self-taught character artists
  • Artists with personal projects but no professional experience
  • General 3D artists who want to specialize in character creation
  • Artists trying to earn their first serious opportunity in the games industry

Your portfolio does not need to contain perfect studio-quality work. It should show your current ability, potential, and commitment to improving.

What You’ll Gain

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to a real Unity game
  • Receive feedback and guidance from a 3D Art Generalist
  • Learn how game-ready characters are produced
  • Improve your modeling, sculpting, texturing, and optimization skills
  • Gain experience working with developers and animators
  • Build stronger portfolio and resume material
  • Potentially transition into a paid full-time 3D Character Artist position
