About us: Glitch Productions is an independent animation studio based in Australia making original, long form animated shows distributed on Youtube. Our channel has over 22 million subscribers, tens of millions of views per episode and is still growing strong. Our studio is filled with incredibly talented and passionate artists that are determined to change the way animation is produced and treated in the industry. Our biggest IP; Digital Circus, has amassed over 350 million views on the pilot alone and we have a lot more still to come. Role Information: As a 3D Lighting Supervisor you will be responsible for defining, maintaining, and elevating the lighting style and quality across the production. This role supervises the lighting team ensuring consistency, appeal, and strong visuals in every scene while working closely with Story, Design, Layout, and Unreal/FX departments. You will be utilising your knowledge in Digital Lighting & Colour Correction/Grading to guide our post production team in taking the visuals of our shows to the next level. The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller with exceptional drawing skills, a deep understanding of 3D animation principles, and proven experience guiding teams through complex 3D pipelines (e.g., Maya, Unreal Engine). Your duties will include: Creative Leadership Establish and maintain the overall lighting style, tone, and visual quality of the project. Evaluate storyboards, animatics and environments to identify lighting needs or challenges early. Deliver high-quality draw-overs, notes, and examples that guide lighting artists toward consistent and appealing results. Team Direction & Collaboration Provide clear creative direction on lighting, mood, composition, colour, readability, and visual storytelling. Lead, mentor, and support a team of lighting artists, technical artists, and junior talent. Collaborate with the Showrunner, Art Director, Modellers, Surfacing, FX, Compositing, and Layout to ensure stylistic cohesion. Partner with Production Management to communicate priorities, review schedules, and ensure a smooth workflow across episodes or sequences. Maintain an open and inclusive feedback culture, helping the team improve performance and quality. Attend lighting launches, department meetings, director syncs, production meetings, and kickoffs for the team. Articulate notes to the team in meetings and 1:1s. Able to guide the team with notes that will also allow us to hit goals within the deadlines allocated, while meeting our quality benchmarks. Quality Control Review and approve lighting assignments, look development, and final lighting across the team. Ensure all lighting adheres to the show's visual language, lighting style guides, colour scripts, and technical standards. Identify and provide paintovers or reference where required, addressing issues with mood, readability, composition, continuity, or technical quality. Uphold high-quality standards while ensuring efficient and achievable workflows. Work with the team to improve pipeline efficiencies and reduce revisions. Pipeline & Technical Oversight Guide the implementation of best practices for the lighting pipeline (Unreal Engine). Work with Technical Directors, Rendering, FX, Look Development, and Compositing teams to optimize tools, workflows, and processes. Troubleshoot artistic and technical issues that impact lighting delivery. Contribute to the development of lighting templates, look development guides, technical documentation, and workflow documentation. Strategic & Production Contribution Participate in planning sessions to determine lighting scope, style, and resource needs. Provide input on assigning sequences to individual lighting artists based on skill and artistic strengths. Troubleshoot and contribute to creative problem solving in collaboration with the team. Collaborate with the executive team to ensure lighting goals align with the creative and production vision. Contribute documentation to guide the team on the visual style of the show and lighting best practices. Drive continuous improvement across lighting techniques, tools, and workflows. A successful candidate will have: Proven experience as a 3D Lighting Supervisor, Lead or Senior Lighting Artist. Strong understanding of lighting, colour, composition, mood and visual storytelling. Experience leading, mentoring and providing creative feedback to lighting teams. Strong Unreal Engine lighting and real-time rendering experience. Excellent communication and collaboration skills across creative and technical teams. Ability to balance creative quality, technical requirements and production deadlines. A strong eye for visual consistency, detail and quality across a project. Bonus Skills: Experience creating colour scripts, paintovers and lighting style guides. Experience in stylised or highly art-directed animation. Unreal Engine 5 experience, including Lumen and real-time rendering optimisation. Experience improving lighting pipelines, tools and workflows. Knowledge of compositing, FX, Look Development or Rendering workflows.
