Job Title: Accessibility Coordinator Reports to: Director of Education & Frick Environmental Center Work Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy (PPC) Mission Statement We improve quality of life by enhancing and stewarding Pittsburgh’s parks in partnership with the community. Position Summary The Accessibility Coordinator leads accessibility and inclusion efforts for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy’s Education Department, helping ensure equitable access to the Frick Environmental Center campus and PPC’s education, health and wellness, and public programs. This role oversees key initiatives including the Trackchair Program and the Outdoor Exploration and Assistive Resource Library, managing staff, volunteers, and day-to-day operations to ensure these resources are well maintained, effectively used, and widely accessible. The Coordinator also serves as an internal accessibility resource, advising staff on inclusive program design, accommodations, communications, and visitor experience. They assess programs, facilities, and trails to identify barriers and support practical improvements that expand participation, while building relationships with disability communities, advocacy organizations, healthcare providers, and other partners to strengthen outreach and inform PPC’s accessibility efforts. PPC recognizes that lived experience can provide valuable expertise in understanding and navigating environmental barriers. Individuals with disabilities, disabled educators, accessibility advocates, and others with relevant lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Position Duties Under the general supervision of the Director of Education & FEC, the Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Provide strategic oversight of the Trackchair Program, including supervising the Trackchair Program Coordinator, supporting day-to-day operations, and strengthening volunteer recruitment, training, and reservation systems. Develop, implement, and maintain accessibility practices, procedures, tools, and resources to support the Trackchair Program, Outdoor Exploration and Assistive Resource Library, and other inclusive programming initiatives. Collaborate with staff to evaluate programs, facilities, trails, and visitor experiences through an accessibility lens and recommend improvements that reduce barriers and expand participation. Serve as an internal accessibility resource by advising and training staff and volunteers on accommodations, inclusive program design, event planning, communications, accessibility-related logistics, and the effective use of adaptive resources. Cultivate and maintain relationships with disability organizations, healthcare providers, community partners, advocates, and other stakeholders to strengthen programming, outreach, and organizational accessibility initiatives. Establish systems for collecting, analyzing, and incorporating feedback from park visitors, program participants, and community partners to inform program improvements, accessibility planning, and capital projects. Oversee the promotion, inventory, maintenance, and accessibility of the Outdoor Exploration and Assistive Resource Library to ensure resources are readily available and easy to access and use. Document and track accessibility initiatives and outcomes using qualitative and quantitative measures and prepare reports demonstrating progress and impact. Support the ongoing activation and enhancement of the Outdoor Discovery Space, Sensory Nature Trail, and other accessible nature-based experiences throughout the Frick Environmental Center campus. Perform other duties as assigned in support of PPC’s mission and organizational goals. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience in a direct-service, community-based, educational, recreational, or similar setting serving diverse populations, including people with disabilities, caregivers, and/or children. Demonstrated ability to build respectful and effective working relationships with participants, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, coursework, training, or professional development in special education, rehabilitation, disability studies, human services, recreation, assistive technology, or a related field. One or more years of experience in accessibility, inclusive recreation or education, disability services, or a related field. Lived experience may also be considered relevant. Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, universal design, or related accessibility frameworks. Experience training, supporting, or advising staff and volunteers. Experience developing partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, disability organizations, or advocacy groups. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using databases or recordkeeping systems. Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. Position Requirements Valid driver’s license. Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within the first 90 days of employment. Ability to work a schedule that includes at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday). Occasional evening work may be required. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions The physical requirements below represent those necessary to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Outdoor Work Environment: Regular work in outdoor park settings, including uneven terrain, sloped woodland trails, and variable weather conditions. Work may be performed using independent mobility, personal mobility devices, or all-terrain Trackchairs. Equipment Use and Handling: Operation and coordination of adaptive equipment, including Trackchairs and assistive resource library items. May involve moving or preparing equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with assistance or mechanical aids as needed. Administrative and Technical Tasks: Use of standard office equipment and digital systems to manage program information, resources, and documentation. Work may be performed in seated or standing positions and supported by assistive technology or accommodations.
