Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and assisting in building and scaling the company’s accounting infrastructure. This role will play a pivotal part in designing and implementing a new ERP system. The ideal candidate brings strong operational accounting expertise in growth environments, experience with a range of financial technologies, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, late phase pre-commercial biotech organization. Duties and Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to): Accounting Operations Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Oversee accounts payable operations, ensuring timely processing of vendor invoices and payments while providing support to the accounting team as needed. Partner with procurement to standardize and improve purchase order, vendor onboarding, and invoice approval processes. Ensure balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled and supported with appropriate documentation. Drive process creation, standardization and continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and finance operations. Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering development and accountability Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence. ERP Implementation & Finance Systems Leadership Serve as accounting lead for ERP implementation, including system selection support, design, configuration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization. Partner with FP&A, IT, Procurement, Manufacturing, and external consultants to ensure successful ERP implementation and integration. Design and document accounting workflows, approval processes, system controls, and reporting structures within the ERP environment. Develop and maintain chart of accounts, dimensions, organizational hierarchies, and financial reporting structures. Lead user acceptance testing (UAT), data validation, and master data governance activities. Act as primary business owner for ERP accounting functionality, collaborating with IT and external consultants on enhancements, ongoing support, and process optimization. Design, implement, and operate controls to safeguard data integrity across finance systems. Support the integration of existing or new systems with the ERP system. Evaluate current processes to identify manual tasks and areas for improvement utilizing AI, automation, or finance technology. SOX Compliance, Controls, and Audit Support Review and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Help establish scalable processes and controls that support organizational growth and commercialization readiness. Support internal control documentation, risk assessments, and process improvement projects. Support SOX readiness activities and implementation of enhanced internal control frameworks. Prepare documentation and analysis needs for financial audits, board reporting, and due diligence processes. Contribute to SEC reporting (e.g., 10-Q, 10-K) as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has direct supervisory responsibilities. Education/Experience/Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA desirable but not required. 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience and 2+ years in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting. Minimum 2 years’ experience directly managing other Accounting Department staff. Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accrual-based accounting. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications. Experience in leading or supporting ERP systems implementations (e.g., SAP, NetSuite). Experience in a SOX 404(b) environment preferred. Experience with driving improvements to and/or maintaining data integrity between finance systems. Experience in a commercial biotech or commercial pharmaceutical environment highly desired. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this individual include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will view a computer monitor for long periods of time.
