We work in commercial, institutional, government, and industrial environments, across the full project lifecycle from assessment and design through supply, integration, and ongoing support. We are a small, senior team where people own their function outright rather than working a narrow slice of it. Zoho Books is our primary accounting system.

Role Description

This is a fully remote, full-time independent contractor position working Eastern Time business hours.

We are hiring a Senior Accounting Specialist to own the day-to-day financial operations of the business. This is not a back-office data entry role. You will own accounts receivable and accounts payable end to end, including direct contact with our customers by email and phone on invoicing and collections. You will maintain the general ledger in Zoho Books, perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, and produce monthly financial statements and a finance summary for leadership.

You will prepare and file HST/GST returns, maintain records for CRA compliance including payroll remittance support and T4 preparation, and prepare the year-end package alongside our Canadian CPA.

The role also carries a broader operational and administrative scope. You will coordinate with our operations team on billing milestones, deposits, and project close-out, and administer employee benefits and business insurance.

This position reports to the General Manager.

Qualifications

• 5 or more years in bookkeeping, accounting, or a closely related finance role
• Hands-on Canadian bookkeeping experience, including HST/GST filings and CRA deadlines. This is a requirement, not an asset
• Working experience in Zoho Books and QuickBooks. Zoho Books is our primary system and you will be operating in it daily
• Prior experience supporting a North American business, working to North American reporting expectations
• Full ownership experience of both accounts receivable and accounts payable, including direct customer contact on collections
• Fluent professional English, written and verbal, strong enough for direct customer calls and emails
• A proven track record working remotely full time, with the maturity and self-direction that requires
• Comfortable working beyond a narrow accounting brief, including benefits, insurance, and general operational administration
• Reliable high-speed internet, a professional and quiet home office setup, and consistent availability during Eastern Time business hours
• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent, complete or in progress, is an asset
• Familiarity with Zoho CRM or the wider Zoho suite is an asset
• Background in construction, field services, or another project-based business is an asset
