More than 900 employers across the province offer HOOPP to their employees. The Plan Operations Division is responsible for providing service to members in order to deliver on HOOPP's pension promise. Reporting to the Director, Actuarial Solutions, the Actuarial Co-op Student will support actuarial testing, data analysis, and calculation quality control activities. This role provides hands-on exposure to actuarial & pension calculations, system changes, and defect analysis, with a focus on improving accuracy and strengthening control processes. What you will do: The Actuarial Co-op Student will support the Actuarial Solutions team in several areas, including: Calculations testing for system releases, including testing defect fixes, new plan changes, regulatory changes, and regression testing Investigation of new and existing calculation defects, including documenting findings, quantifying impacts, and assisting with mitigation and/or remediation efforts Processing monthly benefit revaluation cases for retired members & performing off-system verifications where required Performing off-system calculations related to actual member cases sent to the Actuarial Solutions team for verification Analyzing system data & identifying issues which could affect accuracy of calculations, reporting, or member-facing information Assisting in the maintenance of off-system tools owned by the Actuarial Solutions team Contributing to improving quality control processes and documentation Keeping Director appraised of issues/problems relating to tasks/projects as required, preparing information for weekly status updates. What you will bring: Working towards a University degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Actuarial Science and/or a combination of equivalent training, education and experience. Strong attention to detail. Ability to grasp complex problems and break them down into manageable steps. Comfortable working with data & calculations, and investigating discrepancies Self-starting and can use existing documentation to learn & solve problems Strong Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, lookups, data manipulation & analysis) Strong written & oral communication skills Demonstrated ability to deal with a multiplicity of tasks, set priorities and manage timelines with minimal or no supervision. Experience in Python is an asset The expected hourly rate range for this role is $24.00 to $35.00 The actual hourly rate offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
