About The Role
We are seeking a Senior AI Engineer (m/f/d) to join our dynamic team on a full-time basis. This role is ideal for candidates located in Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, or nearby areas, with the possibility of remote work within Germany. As a Senior AI Engineer at Artefact, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovative AI projects from conception to deployment. You will work closely with clients, product owners, and stakeholders to develop robust AI solutions that deliver practical business impact. Your expertise will contribute to exploring new data and AI use cases, building end-to-end solutions, and experimenting with the latest models and tools. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on multiple projects across various industries, gaining broad experience and making a tangible impact through advanced AI applications.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in computer science, AI, data science, or a related field. You should have at least three years of hands-on experience in machine learning or AI engineering, with a proven track record of delivering production-level projects. Proficiency in Python and experience with cloud-based AI services such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure are essential. A solid understanding of data analysis, data engineering, and AI-specific components like retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt design, fine-tuning, embeddings, and model evaluation is required. Familiarity with DevOps and ML-Ops best practices, including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills, a structured approach, and the ability to take ownership of projects are crucial. Fluency in both business German and English, both written and spoken, is necessary. Applicants must also hold a valid work permit for Germany.
Responsibilities
As a Senior AI Engineer at Artefact, your key responsibilities will include:
- Innovate by identifying business needs, exploring data and AI use cases, and driving projects from initial idea to production deployment.
- Build end-to-end solutions, including concept development, architecture design, implementation, optimization, and delivery of robust AI solutions utilizing data and large language models (LLMs).
- Train and experiment with new models, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and utilizing various AI tools; share knowledge and leverage partner training programs to stay at the forefront of AI advancements.
- Collaborate closely with clients, product owners, and stakeholders to ensure technical solutions align with business goals and deliver measurable impact.
- Gain broad industry experience by working on 1-3 projects annually across multiple sectors, developing real-world AI applications using modern tools such as LangChain, PydanticAI, RAG pipelines, vector databases (FAISS, Weaviate), LlamaIndex, Vertex AI, OpenAI APIs, and Hugging Face models.
Throughout your role, you will maintain a curious and forward-thinking mindset, demonstrating hands-on expertise with LLMs, API integrations, and ML frameworks. Your holistic understanding of the entire machine learning lifecycle, combined with excellent communication skills, will enable you to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences effectively. Additionally, you will support junior team members, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to fostering a collaborative learning environment.
