Did you know that one of the world's largest marine insurers is Norwegian, with headquarters in Oslo?
Skuld is now looking for a motivated AI Engineer to join our Business Processes team in Oslo.
We are on an exciting journey in AI implementation and are looking for a new team member who will play a key role in shaping the next generation of AI solutions.
You will be part of a small, ambitious team that is building production-grade AI systems on Azure, Databricks, and more. From retrieval and reasoning to evaluation and orchestration, you will work hands-on across the AI stack and take ownership of solutions that are used every day by colleagues around the world.
In Skuld, our flat organisational structure gives you real responsibility, authority and trust. You will be part of a culture that supports learning and professional development through structured training, knowledge-sharing and practical experience.
Through a strong and consistent focus on digitalisation and service, we have become one of the world's leading marine insurance providers, with around 360 employees in 10 countries.
The role
AI Engineer
What you will do:
- Work closely with the AI Lead to implement, deliver, and improve the AI systems behind Skuld's AI initiatives.
- Design and build production-grade AI solutions across the stack, such as prompt and context engineering, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent orchestration.
- Own complex projects end to end, from framing the technical problem through to a clean, maintainable solution in production.
- Build evaluation pipelines that measure and prove the quality of AI systems. Maintain, monitor, and continuously improve the systems in production.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build solutions to a high technical standard.
- Help raise AI competence across the organisation, sharing knowledge and good practice with colleagues.
What we are looking for:
- Strong hands-on experience with AI, LLMs, and Natural Language Processing, with a track record of taking systems beyond prototypes into production.
- Fluency with GenAI methods and practical experience across prompt and context design, RAG (chunking, embeddings, vector databases, hybrid retrieval), and agentic workflows, including tool use, function calling, and multi-step reasoning using modern SDKs and agent frameworks (e.g. Microsoft Agent Framework, OpenAI, Anthropic, LangGraph).
- Evaluation-driven development: designing LLM-based evals (LLM-as-judge), measuring quality, and systematically improving AI performance.
- Experience designing and deploying machine learning models. A strong ML foundation beyond LLMs is appreciated.
- Strong programming skills in Python and comfort working in cloud environments (preferably Azure).
- Solid understanding of data management (SQL/NoSQL).
- Familiarity with ML/LLMOps for deployment, inference, and monitoring.
- Genuine curiosity and a habit of keeping pace with a fast-moving field.
- Higher education and at least 4 years of relevant work experience
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written, at a high professional level
- A strong alignment with Skuld's values
