Job Description Apply now Req Id: 43785 Job Title: Analyst/Senior Analyst City: REMOTE Job Description: Job Summary Ready to turn data into insights that shape the student experience and Purdue's future? Purdue University's Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) office is seeking an Analyst/Senior Analyst to help university leaders make informed decisions that impact student success, enrollment strategy, academic programs, and operational effectiveness. In this role, you'll transform complex institutional data into meaningful, actionable insights. Whether you're building executive dashboards, analyzing enrollment trends, responding to emerging questions, or helping campus leaders evaluate strategic initiatives, your work will provide the evidence leaders need to understand performance, identify opportunities, and determine what comes next. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, analyzing data, and turning information into action. Flexible work arrangements, including fully remote opportunities for strong-fit candidates, are available. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. This posting represents multiple vacancies. At Purdue, analytics isn't simply a back-office function; it's a strategic capability that helps drive institutional success. You'll have the opportunity to: Influence strategies and initiatives that affect students, faculty, and staff across the University Partner with leaders and stakeholders across Purdue to solve meaningful business and institutional questions Collaborate with colleagues across analytics, assessment, data science, data governance, and data engineering Develop deep expertise in higher education analytics at a leading public research university This posting may be filled at either the Analyst or Senior Analyst level based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications. Responsibilities are similar across levels, with increasing complexity, independence, leadership, and strategic influence at the Senior level. What You'll Do: What This Job Is A business-facing analytics role: Take questions from stakeholders and turn them into meaningful answers and actionable insights. Often partnering with areas such as Admissions, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and Enrollment Management. Reporting and dashboards: Build and maintain reports and dashboards that help leaders monitor performance, understand trends, and make informed decisions. Ad hoc analysis: Dig into specific questions, analyze data, identify patterns and trends, and communicate what the findings mean. Statistical analysis: Apply methods such as regression and ANOVA when appropriate and translate results for technical and non-technical audiences. Working with established data: Use SQL and other querying tools to access, organize, and analyze data from existing databases and data warehouses. Communication-focused analytics: Explain what the data tells us, why it matters, and how it can inform action. Data quality and documentation: You'll maintain the data definitions, metadata, and validation practices behind accurate, trusted reporting. What This Job Is Not Not a data scientist role: You won't be expected to build or train predictive or machine-learning models or conduct advanced statistical research. Not a data engineer role: You won't build data pipelines, ETL processes, database architecture, or data warehouse infrastructure. Not a software development role: You'll need to be comfortable querying and working with data, particularly through SQL, but this is not a heavy-coding position. Not a "build the plumbing" role: You'll primarily work with data that is already available rather than architecting the systems that make it accessible. Not an academic research position: Your work is focused on practical analysis, reporting, and insights that support university decision-making. What We're Looking For Education and Experience Qualified candidates will need: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field Analyst (P2): Two (2) years of experience analyzing data, developing reports or dashboards, applying statistical methods, and communicating findings to stakeholders; a full-time internship may count toward the experience requirement. Senior Analyst (P3): Four (4) years of experience analyzing data, developing reports or dashboards, applying statistical methods, and communicating findings to stakeholders Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting findings and maintaining clear documentation. Ability to translate stakeholder questions into analytical approaches and share results with technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential data responsibly. Experience with business intelligence and visualization tools; Tableau preferred. Knowledge of relational databases and reporting tools; SQL and Cognos preferred. Experience conducting statistical analysis using tools such as SAS, SPSS, or Minitab. Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and ability to work independently. What Is Helpful Applicants are not expected to meet every preferred qualification. Degree in Business, Management, Financial Management, MIS, CIT, Mathematics, Statistics, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field. Master's degree. Experience with one or more of the following: SQL, Tableau, Cognos, SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R, Python, Excel, or PowerPoint. Experience supporting higher education data, analytics, institutional research, or reporting environments. Experience using generative AI tools to support analytical workflows, such as documentation, exploratory analysis, or summarization, with attention to responsible and ethical use. What You Should Know A cover letter is required for consideration. Your cover letter should reference this specific posting and connect your prior experience to the role. If you're transitioning from another type of position or industry, we'd especially like to understand what draws you to this work and why you're interested in bringing your experience to higher education. Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position, now or in the future. A background check is required. FLSA status: Exempt. Retirement eligibility: Defined Contribution Waiting Period. This posting represents multiple vacancies.
