Job Description Apply now Req Id: 43222 Job Title: Application Developer City: REMOTE Job Description: Job Summary The Application Developer is a fully competent and productive professional contributor who works under general direction to develop, test, implement, and support new and existing software applications. This role collaborates with University stakeholders, cross‑functional IT teams, and, as appropriate, outside partners to deliver technical solutions that meet defined business needs using established architectures, frameworks, and development practices. The Application Developer works on moderately complex technical work, supports application documentation, and follows established coding standards and best practices. This position analyzes, modifies, and maintains existing applications, providing monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution to ensure reliable system performance and usability. You'll contribute to both front-end and back-end development, creating intuitive user experiences and the services that power them. In addition, the Application Developer contributes to project and enhancement efforts by implementing assigned tasks, supporting testing activities, and assisting with effort estimation and technical analysis. The role participates in agile development processes, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborates with senior team members to deliver solutions efficiently and consistently. What We're Looking For Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience Two (2) or more years of professional application development experience across the full systems development lifecycle (SDLC), including analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of applications Skills Required: Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#, Python) Solid understanding of web-based application development technologies, frameworks, and common architectural patterns Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases and API-based integrations Strong: communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose production issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions Knowledge of secure coding practices and methods for protecting data and systems from unauthorized access Ability to: execute all phases of the systems development lifecycle (SDLC), including analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of both internally developed and third‑party systems interpret, document, and translate business and end-user requirements into effective technical solutions learn and apply new programming languages, frameworks, tools, and techniques as technologies evolve assess requirements, estimate development effort, prioritize assigned work, and meet deadlines collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders provide application support after hours and on weekends as required Preferred: Experience: working in Agile development environments (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and/or containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) supporting or developing multiple enterprise applications simultaneously writing or contributing to technical documentation, user guides, training materials, or knowledge-base articles Knowledge of accessibility standards, performance optimization techniques, and security testing tools Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, version control, or DevOps practices Additional Information: Purdue University will not sponsor employment authorization for this position A background check will be required for employment in this position FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime) Retirement Eligibility: Defined Contribution Waiting Period Benefit Statement: Purdue University offers a substantial Benefit Package including medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as a generous paid time off package for sick and vacation days Career Stream Professional 2 Pay Band S065 Job Code #20002540 Career path maker: https://www.purdue.edu/hr/careerpathmaker/ Who We Are Purdue is a community built on collaboration, with global perspectives, Boilermaker pride and endless opportunity to live, learn and grow.
