Application Support Engineer

This remote contractor role is based in El Salvador and only open to citizens and permanent residents of El Salvador who do not need visa sponsorship. Our team works with many technologies, so our engineers must be versatile throughout the stack and work to improve their skills continuously. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Own the stability and performance of mission-critical systems supporting business users. Investigate system anomalies by correlating logs, metrics, and traces to identify root causes and determine remediation approaches. Lead rapid incident response and drive root cause resolution. Participate in an on-call rotation to support scheduled deployments and respond to production issues outside business hours. Respond to and resolve customer-reported issues within SLA, communicating status and resolution to business stakeholders. Proactively identify problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement before they impact customers. Improve observability across monitoring, metrics, logging, and alerting. Troubleshoot and resolve software integration issues, data integrity problems, and application errors. Identify opportunities to improve system scalability, fault tolerance, and performance. Required Skills : Strong English Communication Skills Working knowledge of .NET (ability to read and debug code to trace issues through application flow). Proficiency in Python and/or PowerShell — able to understand, modify, and write scripts for troubleshooting and automation. Strong SQL Server skills, including writing DML and DDL to investigate and remediate data issues in production. Familiarity with Cloud infrastructure (e.g., EC2, CloudWatch) — comfortable monitoring server/application health and resource usage. Experience with log analysis and observability tools to diagnose incidents. Strategic Skills: Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, other developers, backend services, product teams, and QA engineers. Flexible approach, able to operate effectively with uncertainty and change. Driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships and problem solve Familiar with troubleshooting web-based applications, cloud transaction processing, database queries, and software integrations. Nice to have: Familiarity with alerting/incident management tools (e.g., PagerDuty, Opsgenie). Experience with ticketing systems and SLA-driven workflows (e.g., Jira Service Management, ServiceNow, or similar).
