ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL CRIMINAL BUREAU GAMING ENFORCEMENT DIVISION (Boston Office) Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Attorney General to the Gaming Enforcement Division within the Criminal Bureau. The Gaming Enforcement Division is a statewide team of prosecutors, investigators, and administrative and other staff, partnered with the Massachusetts State Police, and charged with investigating and prosecuting gaming-related crimes pursuant to G.L. c. 12, § 11M. Primary Duties : The Assistant Attorney General in the Gaming Enforcement Division will investigate and prosecute criminal conduct related to expanded gaming in the Commonwealth, including violations of G.L. c. 23K, G.L. c. 23N, G.L. c. 267A, and G.L. c. 271, and other illegal activity, such as gaming-related financial crime, organized crime, corruption, and money laundering. Additionally, members of the Division investigate and prosecute all crimes originating at or connected to the casinos, such as firearm-related crimes, domestic violence, sexual assaults, and sophisticated larcenies. The Gaming Enforcement Division is a statewide division, and the position requires a candidate with a proven track record of versatility and adaptability. Division members work closely with the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit assigned to both the Office of the Attorney General and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. The Assistant Attorney General will be expected to handle a complex caseload and be charged with leading and coordinating investigations and prosecutions with State Police in conjunction with other prosecutors, victim/witness advocates, paralegals, and support staff. Additional functions will include screening potential cases, fostering relationships with industry stakeholders, participating in training, occasional district court coverage, and working cohesively with others in the Office of the Attorney General. All employees assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Division are subject to the Enhanced Code of Ethics adopted pursuant to G.L. c. 12, § 11M(c). Position Requirements : Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar and a practicing attorney. At least five (5) years of experience as an attorney, preferably in state criminal practice. Knowledge of, or ability to gain understanding of, Massachusetts statutes involving money laundering, all aspects of illegal gaming, larceny, domestic violence, and sexual assault is highly desirable, as is trial experience in Superior Court or U.S. District Court. Ability to handle a large and advanced caseload and comfortable appearing in court. Ability to conduct long- and short-term investigations, including lengthy grand jury investigations. Excellent legal writing experience and communication skills. Self-motivated, team-player, disciplined, ethical, and willing to learn, with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment. Location: Although this position is based in Boston, MA, the successful candidate will be required to travel as needed to other areas of the Commonwealth in support of investigations. Accordingly, a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License is required. Our hybrid model includes some telework days for most positions. For the first six months in the position, the Assistant Attorney General will be expected to work in office at least three or four days per week.
