About the Position: The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with applicable regulations. This role plays a key part in managing the month-end close process, financial reporting, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. This position is open to in-office or remote candidates local to the Denver Metro Area. Key Responsibilities Support development of documented procedures for all accounting staff / functions Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP Ensure accuracy of general ledger and account reconciliations Review expense reports and reconcile company credit card program Review timesheets ensuring compliance with EEI travel polices and various state time reporting requirements Support development and maintenance of internal controls and policies Oversee project accounting functions Assist in preparing files for external auditors, appraisers and tax preparers during annual reviews and tax filings as necessary Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities All other duties assigned Qualifications Education – Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Experience – 7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a project-based construction or engineering services environment. Strong understanding of GAAP and job cost accounting principles Proficient in project accounting software (Deltek preferred) and Microsoft Office products Ability to work within firm deadlines Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate clearly with both financial and non-financial stakeholders Commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and corporate governance.
