Substation Assistant Project Manager

📍 Location: Raleigh, NC (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)

💼 Employment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

📅 Start Date: Early to Mid August


About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Substation Assistant Project Manager to support the successful execution of utility substation projects from initiation through closeout. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced Project Managers on both new build and retrofit substation projects while gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle.


This position follows a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite / 2 days remote). Candidates willing to permanently relocate to Raleigh are encouraged to apply. Relocation assistance is available.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of utility substation projects from kickoff through project completion.
  • Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Help manage project risks, change orders, and opportunities throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, vendors, and customers to ensure project success.
  • Participate in customer meetings and provide professional project updates.
  • Support project documentation, reporting, and lessons learned initiatives.
  • Monitor project performance and assist in maintaining project profitability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan project activities, allocate resources, and maintain schedules.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge of GIS, AIS, Balance of Plant (BoP), and high-voltage switchgear products.
  • Travel occasionally to project sites throughout the United States as needed.


Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting Power Systems or Substation projects.
  • Experience working on utility substation new build or retrofit projects.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.


Preferred

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Management.
  • PMP Certification (or working toward certification).
  • Experience with GIS, AIS, Balance of Plant (BoP), or high-voltage switchgear.
  • Experience working for EPC firms, utilities, or electrical infrastructure organizations.
