Job Description Overview We are seeking enthusiastic Assistant and Junior Consultants to join our growing Water Management Consultancy team in Ireland. This role is ideal for candidates with an interest in freshwater environmental science who want to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges relating to rivers, lakes, wetlands, groundwater and catchments. Successful candidates will support a diverse range of projects across Ireland and the UK, working alongside specialists in freshwater ecology, hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality, hydromorphology and catchment management. The role provides broad exposure across the water environment sector while also offering opportunities to develop technical specialisms aligned with individual interests, experience and business needs. Your role Depending on your background and interests, responsibilities may include: Water quality data collection and interpretation. Hydrological and environmental data management and assessment. Groundwater and hydrogeological investigations. River habitat, hydromorphological and geomorphological surveys and assessments. Freshwater ecological and hydro-ecological assessments. Catchment characterisation and environmental analysis. Literature reviews and evidence gathering. Supporting Water Framework Directive (WFD), Appropriate Assessment (AA), Natura Impact Statement (NIS), Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and other environmental assessments. Assisting with river restoration, fish passage, natural flood management and catchment management projects. Preparation of technical reports, figures, presentations and client deliverables. Working within multidisciplinary project teams delivering infrastructure and environmental projects. Other relevant environmental disciplines. Essential Requirements A relevant degree (BSc, BEng, MSc or equivalent). Strong interest in freshwater environments and water-related environmental issues. Knowledge or academic experience in one or more of the following: Freshwater ecology. Hydrology. Hydrogeology. Water quality. Hydromorphology or fluvial geomorphology. Catchment management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Full driving licence (or willingness to obtain one). Desirable Experience Experience, knowledge or interest in any of the following would be advantageous: Water Framework Directive (WFD). River Basin Management Planning. Freshwater biodiversity. Water quality monitoring and assessment. Statistical, analytical or data-processing techniques. Hydrological or hydraulic modelling. Groundwater assessment. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Appropriate Assessment (AA). River restoration and fish passage. Nature-based solutions. Natural flood management.
