Description Position Summary: The Associate Actuary is responsible for providing actuarial expertise and analytical insights to support the Company's strategic and operational objectives. This role is primarily focused on reserving activities, including the analysis and evaluation of loss and loss adjustment expense reserves for commercial property insurance business. The position works closely with the VP of Actuarial, Data, & Analytics and other department colleagues, as well as with Finance, Underwriting, Claims, and Reinsurance as needed. Note: This is a hybrid position. Associates in the Tampa Bay region must work on site at our St. Petersburg, FL office each Monday and Wednesday. Associates based outside the Tampa Bay region are required to be on site periodically. Requirements Typical Essential Duties Reserving and Loss Analysis Leads quarterly and annual reserve analyses, applying actuarial reserving methodologies to evaluate reserve adequacy, emerging loss trends, claim development patterns, and incurred but not reported (IBNR) reserves. Utilizes actuarial methods and professional judgment to assess reserve indications, monitor development against expectations, and identify emerging risks affecting reserve adequacy. Evaluates reserve adequacy and emerging loss trends using accepted actuarial methodologies and professional judgment. Analyzes catastrophe losses, large-loss activity, and claim development patterns. Develops reserve recommendations and communicates findings to VP of Actuarial, Data, & Analytics. Prepares actuarial exhibits, reports, and presentations for executive leadership, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders. Monitors reserve performance and identifies trends, risks, and opportunities affecting financial results. Provides guidance and direction for other employees in the application of actuarial techniques and methods. Business Analytics and Strategic Support Supports business planning and decision-making through actuarial and quantitative analyses. Evaluates portfolio performance, profitability, and exposure trends. Translates actuarial analyses into actionable business insights and recommendations that support underwriting, claims, reinsurance, financial planning, and strategic decision-making. Supports regulatory reporting, financial reporting, and special projects as needed. Process Improvement and Innovation Develops and enhances actuarial models, tools, and reporting processes. Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency through automation, analytics, and data-driven solutions. Maintains documentation supporting actuarial methodologies and assumptions. Promotes data quality and analytical best practices across the organization. General Maintains CAS and/or AAA continuing education requirements. Participates in cross-functional initiatives and strategic projects. Assists with training and development of staff. Provides actuarial support in areas beyond reserving as organizational needs evolve. Remains current on industry trends, emerging risks, actuarial standards, and regulatory developments. Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job description. Requirements and Competencies Education/Licensure: Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field. Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) designation required. Experience: Five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant actuarial or analytical experience, including a minimum of three (3) years in Reserving. Some experience with low frequency/high severity lines of business and/or Catastrophe-prone regions preferred. Working knowledge of SQL and at least one analytical or statistical programming language such as Python or VBA required. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of the Education and Experience requirements listed above. Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge of actuarial reserving methodologies, loss development techniques, and reserve adequacy analysis. Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools preferred. Ability to work with large and complex datasets. Ability to exercise sound actuarial judgment in situations involving limited historical data, catastrophe-driven results, or emerging loss trends. Strong quantitative and critical-thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Collaborative team player with a willingness to contribute across functional areas. High degree of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail. Physical Position typically requires reaching, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: The duties most often considered Sedentary Work include exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary Work involves sitting most or all of the time. Some travel may be required.
