What We Can Achieve Together: The Associate Director of Communications, Corporate Sustainability plays a central role in crafting and executing bold, integrated communications strategies that engage senior business leaders, strengthen The Nature Conservancy’s brand, and establish the organization as a go-to authority on corporate sustainability and markets that support climate- and nature-positive outcomes. From global stages to digital platforms, this role turns complex science and partnerships into sharp, persuasive narratives that land with CEOs, CFOs, Chief Sustainability Officers, investors, donors, and decision-makers across corporate value chains. They proactively identify new opportunities to elevate TNC’s voice, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate impact. This role sits within TNC’s Global Marketing and Communications team and works in partnership with the organization’s Corporate Engagement team. Corporate Engagement sits within TNC’s Impact Finance & Markets division and works with companies to translate the value of nature and conservation approaches into actionable, science-based strategies that support climate- and nature-positive outcomes. The Associate Director will serve as a thought partner to the Managing Director of Corporate Engagement and other leaders within the Impact Finance & Markets Division. We're Looking for You: This role combines strategic leadership, hands-on implementation and execution, and cross-organizational collaboration to influence TNC’s corporate sustainability agenda. Strategic Communications and Leadership Leads the development and implementation of integrated, audience-first communications strategies and narratives that elevate TNC’s positioning with corporate and financial audiences and differentiate the organization in a rapidly evolving landscape. Translates complex science, financial, and corporate sustainability topics into clear, credible, compelling communications content tailored to senior business audiences, investors, donors, and other priority audiences. Models strong leadership in a fast-paced environment balancing strategic clarity with executional excellence. Thought Leadership and External Positioning Drives TNC’s reputation as a trusted, solutions-oriented voice on corporate sustainability and climate- and nature-positive outcomes. Identifies opportunities to influence key conversations through executive platforms, speaking engagements, earned and paid media opportunities, and strategic thought leadership content. Content and Channel Strategy Leads the development and implementation of high-quality, audience-focused content optimized for reach, engagement, and organizational priorities across various channels. Develops a plan to scale impact and reach of Corporate Engagement content via webinars, events, social media, etc. Collaboration in Matrixed Organization Builds partnerships and collaborations across Corporate Engagement, Marketing and Communications, conservation, policy, and other functions to drive coordinated and integrated communications. RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE Maintain up-to-date knowledge on sustainability and related issues and trends relevant to corporate or investor audiences, especially key TNC corporate partners, and the potential impacts and opportunities for TNC’s positioning. Identify and secure high-value visibility opportunities, including speaking engagements, major events, media opportunities, and thought leadership platforms that elevate TNC’s corporate sustainability work among key corporate, financial, and investor audiences. Develop and optimize content across digital and owned channels, ensuring alignment with audience journeys (including SEO where relevant), engagement, and organizational priorities, including web and social media content, thought leadership articles, speeches, presentations, and partner materials. Partner with communications colleagues, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to align communications efforts with organization and business development goals. Serve as a liaison to corporate partners’ communications teams to ensure message alignment, brand integrity, and effective joint communications. Manage multiple high-priority Initiatives and projects simultaneously while navigating a complex, matrixed organization, manage sound judgment, effectively prioritize and allocate resources strategically, and influence without authority. May supervise and develop staff and/or lead cross-functional project teams, setting clear expectations and supporting professional growthMay manage external consultants, agencies, or vendors, including: defining requirements, guiding deliverables and supporting performance and accountability. What You'll Bring: Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 8 years related experience or equivalent combination. Experience in project management, developing communications, media and engagement strategies, and measuring results.Experience cultivating and managing client relationships. Experience supervising staff and teams. Desired Qualifications: Strong understanding of corporate climate and sustainability commitments, targets, and frameworks (e.g.: net zero, SBTi, TNFD, etc.). Experience developing and executing integrated communications strategies for corporate, investor, or financial audiencesDemonstrated success positioning organizations or executives as thought leaders through strategic content, speaking engagements, events, and/or media. Experience managing budgets, including vendor management and expenditure tracking. Demonstrated fluency with various digital communications channels and formats, including websites, social media, email marketing, and other digital platforms, with the ability to leverage emerging tools and technologies to reach target audiences. Experience working in or with the private sector and/or nonprofits engaging corporate partners. Exceptional writing and editorial skills across formats. Ability to operate effectively in matrixed, global organizationsHigh degree of initiative, proactivity, sound judgment, and ability to manage multiple priorities with limited direction. Salary Information: This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $82,790 - $124,270 USD for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency (UK: $68,720 -$73,015 GBP) , the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
