Reporting Structure Reports To: Senior Field Director, Medical Affairs or designee Direct Reports: Medical Science Liaison(s), Endocrinology Areas Managed: Medical Affairs Initiatives, Field medical activities Overview The Associate Field Director will be a field-based professional who will serve as a manager for the Endocrinology MSL team whose mission is to foster collaborative relationships with opinion leaders focused on Cushing’s Syndrome and Acromegaly, within a specific region. The Associate Field Director will supervise, mentor, develop MSLs, assist in hiring, and will foster the team to develop collaborative relationships with opinion leaders. The Associate Field Director will facilitate field facing activities including the exchange of unbiased scientific information between the medical community and the company. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management: • Lead, coach, and develop a regional team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), ensuring scientific excellence and effective external engagement. • Provide regular field coaching and feedback on scientific exchange, KOL engagement, and compliant communication. • Oversee performance management, mentoring, and career development of MSLs. • Ensure MSL team compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and pharmacovigilance responsibilities. • Champion a culture of inclusion, integrity, and continuous learning across the MSL team. • Contribute to succession planning by identifying and developing future MSL leaders Scientific & External Engagement: • Maintain personal KOL responsibilities while developing and sustaining peer-to-peer collaborations with regional/national experts, payers, advocacy groups, and guideline committees. • Ensure delivery of accurate, unbiased, and up-to-date scientific information by the MSL team to healthcare professionals and stakeholders. • Oversee MSL participation in advisory boards, scientific congresses, and external educational activities. • Partner with Medical Affairs leadership to develop, review, and deliver scientific materials (slide decks, medical letters, clinical summaries). • Strengthen the company’s external presence by representing Field Medical at regional and national congresses. • Identify opportunities to build strategic partnerships with thought leaders, societies, and advocacy groups within the therapeutic area. Medical Strategy & Insights: • Systematically collect, analyze, and communicate actionable field insights to inform medical strategy, evidence generation, and launch planning. • Support field research initiatives, including clinical investigator identification, site assessment, and investigator-sponsored studies. • Collaborate cross-functionally to support internal medical training for commercial and other teams, while ensuring scientific independence. • Participate in medical and promotional review processes to ensure scientific accuracy and compliance. • Ensure field insights are integrated into regional and national strategy discussions, closing the loop between field activities and corporate priorities. • Contribute to the development of launch readiness plans and tactical medical objectives. Continuous Learning & Contribution: • Stay current with therapeutic area science, competitive intelligence, and evolving treatment landscapes. • Represent the company at medical meetings and congresses, serving as a credible scientific resource. • Contribute to departmental projects and initiatives as assigned, advancing medical affairs capabilities and effectiveness. Education and Experience • Advanced scientific degree (M.D., D.O., Ph.D., Pharm.D., NP, PA) in Medical Biological Sciences required. • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs/clinical functions with progressive levels of responsibility, including at least 5+ years in a Senior MSL role with demonstrated success coaching and developing field teams. • Familiarity with the drug development process and regulatory guidelines (FDA, ICH, GCP). • Proven ability to manage and execute medical affairs initiatives such as advisory boards and scientific congress activities. Knowledge and Skills • Ability to review, interpret, and communicate complex clinical and scientific data. • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple competing priorities. • Experience with rare diseases a plus (including Medical Affairs, clinical practice, research). • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and excellent time management. • Proficiency with CRM/insight capture tools and Microsoft Office programs. • Solid understanding of negotiation, influence, conflict management, change management, and influencing without authority. • Exceptional scientific communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with ability to engage senior KOLs and cross-functional leaders. • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams with a collaborative, positive, and energetic approach. Work Environment This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The role actively moves throughout the workday, via car or plane entering offices, hospitals, medical centers etc. Based upon job requirements, the employee may be required at times to attend meetings including travel out of state over weekends and nights. The employee must be able to freely operate and travel by car and train/plane modes of transportation. The employee is required to have a valid driver’s license and means of transportation. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to fly via commercial air carrier. This is an active role; the employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Occasionally it is required to lift and/or move light to moderate weight up to 25 lbs. Location/Travel • This position is a field-based position with proximity to a major airport. • This position may require extensive domestic travel (60 to 70%). o Frequent domestic travel to meetings and conferences; some of which occur over weekends. o Occasional international travel.
