Note to candidates: Please send a resume and brief cover letter explaining your relevant background and interest to [email protected]. Do not apply through LinkedIn.

This position is remote. SCGV is a Swiss Foundation, however as a member of Save the Children's global federation, we are able to offer employment in most parts of the world.

I. OVERVIEW

Save the Children Global Ventures (SCGV) is Save the Children's impact investing and innovative finance platform, mobilising high-impact capital to solve some of the most pressing problems facing children. Our Nature-based Solutions for Children initiative supports child-centred carbon finance, developing projects where community benefits – particularly for children – are the focus and high-integrity carbon credits are the financing mechanism. In 2025, we raised $5M for our Nandi Carbon project in Kenya and are now working towards closing another $20M of commitments in 2026, with a goal of mobilising over $100M by 2030. Building on Save the Children's presence in over 100 countries, we identify, develop and finance high-impact carbon projects, support partner organisations doing similar work and help fundraising teams deepen corporate partnerships through child-impact carbon financing.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Climate Finance, this role will focus on developing SCGV's NbS carbon project portfolio, contributing technical and analytical support across the project lifecycle from early-stage screening and feasibility through to implementation, monitoring and reporting. We are primarily looking for experience with afforestation, reforestation and regeneration projects, though experience with rangeland management, cookstoves or biochar is also valuable.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated early to mid-career professional with strong analytical and communication skills and a solid foundation in carbon project development, carbon accounting and financing. As a small team with a start-up culture supporting a global initiative across time zones, we need someone comfortable with remote working, flexible about meetings outside local business hours and willing and able to travel internationally.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

Project pipeline development:

  • Support the identification of potential NbS projects, working independently as well as with Save the Children Country Offices and other partners.
  • Conduct initial desk-based evaluations and assessments of project concepts, covering crediting potential and pathway; project boundary and eligible area; baseline conditions/without-project scenario and proposed interventions; financial viability; and ESS and other red flag screenings.
  • In collaboration with Save the Children Country Offices, SCGV colleagues and consultants, plan, oversee and/or support project development activities, including stakeholder engagement, programme design, carbon technical design, obtainment of approvals and commercial modelling.

Project validation and verification

  • Plan, oversee and/or support project validation and verification processes, including stakeholder management of carbon standard and validation and verification bodies (VVBs).
  • Contribute to project documentation, including project design documents and monitoring reports, coordinating inputs with technical providers and internal contributors as needed.
  • Support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) teams across Save the Children with MRV data systems, QA/QC and analysis.

Project investment support

  • Develop financial models to evaluate project viability.
  • Support Save the Children Country Offices in developing and refining project budgets across project lifecycles.
  • Conduct financial modelling and sensitivity analysis to support proposals and investor negotiations as well as project reporting.

III. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Essential knowledge, experience and qualities

  • Demonstrated experience in carbon markets, NbS project development or related technical roles.
  • Proficiency with emission reduction estimation for ARR/ALM projects; experience with other methodologies is also valuable, particularly clean cookstoves and biochar.
  • Proficiency with GIS analysis for ARR/ALM projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive and adaptable working style.
  • Ability to synthesise technical information into clear insights – getting to the point quickly without getting stuck in less significant details.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Clean and concise drafting and presentation style.
  • Experience using AI tools to enhance productivity and improve output.

Desirable skills

  • Experience preparing project documentation and navigating validation and verification processes.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial modelling.
  • Exposure to stakeholder engagement in multi-partner environments.
  • Familiarity with data collection tools such as Kobo and CommCare.

Required qualifications and/or accreditations

  • Undergraduate or higher degree in environmental science, forestry, economics, business, GIS or related field.

IV. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory criminal background check and, where required, a Working with Children Check. Employees must also sign on to Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Ongoing performance and employment will be measured against OKRs and demonstrated alignment with SCGV’s values and core mindsets.
  • SCGV is an inclusive organisation and welcomes applications from under-represented and intersectional groups including BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and persons with disabilities. We are seeking people who represent different backgrounds, cultures, ages and identities, to provide a wide range of experience, ideas, views and insights into the strategy, policies, culture and ambitions of our global team.

V. HOW TO APPLY

Please send your resume and a short cover letter explaining your interest in the role to [email protected]. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, 14 August 2026 at 11:59pm Pacific Daylight Time.

Please note that due to the high number of applications we receive and limited capacity on our small team, we are unfortunately only able to respond to candidates whose qualifications best match those listed above and with whom we wish to advance in the hiring process.
