It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable, affordable, clean energy they depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote, once the initial in-person training period has been completed. Relocation assistance may also be provided to the successful candidate. What does an Associate Counsel or Corporate Counsel on the Litigation team do for us? They support the company by providing legal advice and support on a variety of legal issues relating to Idaho Power’s business and operations. This includes proactively identifying and mitigating potential risk before it escalates to formal litigation, advising business units on legal risk, conducting investigations into matters that may result in claims against the company, and supporting the management of litigation, administrative proceedings, and dispute resolution. The role also serves as a legal advisor to the Human Resources department and provides legal support to other business units as needed. A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge: Working knowledge of every phase of civil litigation General knowledge of administrative law and processes General knowledge of legal risk mitigation in a corporate environment Knowledge of employment law, workplace investigations, and employee issues, or a demonstrated interest and ability to develop expertise in these areas General understanding of other areas of law and business within scope of responsibility and where appropriate Sufficient knowledge of the business to be able to reconcile potentially conflicting legal needs and business objectives Skills and Abilities: Provide legal guidance on disputes before they escalate to lawsuits Advise on a wide range of legal issues that cross multiple areas of law Responding to third-party inquiries or complaints Identify legal risks and engage in strategic risk management and creative and efficient problem-solving Effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Assist with the management of litigation and administrative proceedings, including fact development, discovery, motion practice, and coordination with outside counsel Advise the Human Resources department on employment-related matters Learn new areas of law and adapt to changing legal environment Read, analyze, and interpret complex legal and business documents Effectively organize and present complex information in an understandable manner Communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization Work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Associate Counsel Education: Juris Doctorate degree Experience: 2 years of experience practicing law in a relevant specialty at a law firm, large corporate legal department, and/or with the government Licenses & Certifications: Current membership in a State Bar, and the ability to become licensed to practice law in Idaho within a reasonable time Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position Corporate Counsel Education: Juris Doctorate degree Experience: 5 years of experience practicing law in a relevant specialty at a law firm, large corporate legal department, and/or with the government Licenses & Certifications: Current membership in a State Bar, and the ability to become licensed to practice law in Idaho within a reasonable time Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
