Job Description This is a remote position. ABOUT TINY HEARTS OF AMERICA Tiny Hearts of America (THA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Columbia, South Carolina, built on the belief that every child deserves safety, nourishment, and the opportunity to thrive. We operate six programs — Tiny Tummies (food security), Bright Future (youth development), Healing Hearts (behavioral health), Safe Haven Initiative (child protection), Community Care, and Tiny Hearts Essentials — all focused on serving children and families in underserved communities throughout the Midlands region. We are a growing organization, and our Board of Directors is central to our ability to fulfill our mission. We are seeking mission-aligned leaders who are ready to contribute their expertise, networks, and passion to help THA reach more families and create lasting community impact. ROLE OVERVIEW Board Members of Tiny Hearts of America serve as the governing body of the organization. They provide strategic oversight, fiduciary accountability, and organizational leadership to ensure THA fulfills its mission, maintains legal and ethical compliance, and sustains the resources necessary to serve children and families effectively. This is a volunteer leadership role. Board Members are not compensated financially, but play a critical and visible role in shaping the future of THA and the communities we serve. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Governance & Oversight Participate in setting and upholding THA's strategic direction, policies, and organizational values Review and approve annual budgets, financial audits, and major organizational decisions Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and nonprofit legal requirements Monitor organizational performance against strategic goals and mission outcomes Financial Stewardship Review and approve financial reports and major expenditures Actively participate in fundraising efforts — including soliciting donations and opening doors to new funding Make a personal financial contribution to THA in accordance with your capacity (no minimum required) Identify and cultivate relationships with potential funders, corporate partners, and grant opportunities Mission Advocacy & Community Engagement Serve as an ambassador for THA within your professional and personal networks Promote THA programs, events, and volunteer opportunities across your community Participate in THA community events, including the August 29, 2026 Community United launch event Help expand THA's visibility, credibility, and reach in the Columbia community and beyond Meetings & Participation Attend and actively participate in quarterly Board of Directors meetings Participate in at least one board committee (Finance, Programs, Governance, or Development) Respond to board communications in a timely and professional manner Complete any required onboarding training, including Mandated Reporter Training (MRT-TP-01) Requirements WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Required Genuine commitment to THA's mission — child protection, food security, and family strengthening Demonstrated leadership experience in a professional, civic, or community capacity Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills Ability to meet the time commitment of approximately 4–8 hours per month Willingness to complete all required THA onboarding requirements, including background check and Mandated Reporter Training Preferred (Any Combination Welcome) Experience in nonprofit governance, legal compliance, or board service Background in finance, accounting, or audit — particularly in the nonprofit sector Expertise in healthcare, behavioral health, social services, or child welfare Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or corporate development Legal background — nonprofit law, employment law, or contract review Strong community ties in the Columbia, SC area or the broader Midlands region Marketing, communications, or public relations experience Connections to corporate or foundation funding sources in South Carolina Application Requirements Completed application form via the THA Careers Portal Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV) Brief cover statement — tell us why you want to serve on the THA Board and what you bring to the table (can be submitted in the application form) Two professional or community references (names and contact information) Application Process Step 1 — Submit application and resume at tinyheartsofamerica.zohorecruit.com/jobs/Careers Step 2 — THA staff will review your application and reach out to schedule an introductory conversation Step 3 — Interview with the Executive Director and/or current board members Step 4 — Background check and completion of required onboarding training Step 5 — Board vote on appointment and formal onboarding Equal Opportunity Statement Tiny Hearts of America is an equal opportunity organization.
