Company Overview We are partnering with a respected custom AV integrator based just north of Albany in Glens Falls, NY, with decades of experience serving commercial and residential clients throughout the Capital Region. Commercial integration is the core of the business, with deep roots in higher education, K-12, and public sector work, and the company is growing into new construction through relationships with architects, engineers, and general contractors. The company runs on EOS, with a "right people, right seat" philosophy that shapes how they hire and how they develop the people already on the team. Their values guide every decision and interaction: Value Relationships: Trust and connection are the foundation of the business. Team Player: Success comes from supporting one another and working toward shared goals. Passion for Success: A drive for excellence, continuous improvement, and thoughtful execution. Humble Confidence: A grounded, self-aware approach that leads with integrity. Why Join Us? Fully Remote — This role is remote for the right candidate anywhere on the East Coast, with periodic trips to the Glens Falls office. Leadership handles site walks, so your day is spent designing. Immediate, Visible Impact — Design capacity determines how fast proposals reach clients and how many projects the company can win. Your work moves the business directly. An AI-Forward Engineering Team — The company has moved its engineering research onto Claude, uses AI actively in design and documentation, and wants someone who will push that further. A Modern Design Stack — D-Tools integrated with Visio, with clean documentation standards the field team actually relies on. A Growing Platform Portfolio — Extron and Control4 today, with the platform portfolio expanding, so you'll have room to grow your technical footprint. Direct Access to Leadership — You'll partner one-on-one with leadership on scope, feasibility, and design intent, with no layers in between. Job Overview We are seeking an AV System Designer to own the design and engineering side of the company's commercial and residential projects. This is a combination engineer and designer seat: you'll translate project requirements, site conditions, and client goals into complete system designs, drawings, and bills of material that the sales team can quote and the field team can build. Design throughput is the constraint on how quickly this company can put proposals in front of clients, so this role sits right at the center of its growth plans. You'll work closely with leadership, who walks the job sites and brings back the field detail you need, and with the sales team on scope and feasibility. A commercial AV background is the strongest foundation for this work. Commercial design experience translates readily to residential, and leadership is happy to bring you up to speed on the residential side. The person who thrives here is self-directed, documents thoroughly, communicates clearly in a remote working relationship, and is genuinely interested in using AI to work faster and better. Responsibilities Design commercial and residential AV systems, including AV switching and distribution, control, networked AV, and supporting low voltage technologies. Produce system drawings, line diagrams, and technical documentation in D-Tools and Visio. Build accurate bills of material and support the sales team in developing proposals and estimates. Collaborate with leadership and sales on scope, feasibility, and design intent following site walks. Use AI tools to accelerate research, documentation, and design workflows. Maintain and improve design standards and documentation practices across projects. Travel to the Glens Falls office periodically for planning, collaboration, and team time. Qualifications Required Qualifications Hands-on AV system design experience, with the ability to take a project from requirements to a complete, buildable design without oversight. Working knowledge of AV switching and distribution, control systems, and networked AV. Experience with Extron and Control4. Proficiency with D-Tools and Visio, or comparable design and CAD documentation tools. Strong written documentation and communication skills suited to a remote working relationship. Located on the East Coast, with availability to travel to Glens Falls, NY periodically. Preferred Qualifications Commercial AV design experience, particularly in higher education, K-12, or public sector environments. Q-SYS experience or certification. Control4 programming experience. Lutron or other lighting control design experience. Residential integration exposure. Demonstrated use of AI tools in design, research, or documentation workflows. Benefits Health insurance Paid time off and company holidays Retirement plan with company match Company profit sharing Family leave Compensation $75,000 – $85,000, depending on experience Location: Remote, East Coast U.S. with periodic travel to Glens Falls, NY
