Backend Software Developer

Taurine Technology is a Cape Town startup building Axon, an AI-powered network management

platform that gives providers deeper insight, better control and agentic workflows. Axon is

hardware-agnostic, running on anything from a Raspberry Pi to a firewall at a fraction of the cost

of traditional systems. Our customers range from schools running small networks to ISPs serving tens of thousands of subscribers.

THE ROLE

You'll own meaningful parts of the Axon controller, which turns millions of

telemetry data points per site into insight and control. You'll also build the LLM tooling our agents use to classify traffic, troubleshoot and enforce policy, delivered over MCP.

• High-throughput telemetry ingestion under tight CPU, memory and disk budgets
• Systems resilient to unreliable links and offline devices, built for remote networks
• MCP integrations that let agents act autonomously while keeping operators in the loop
• New traffic intelligence features, from classification through to anomaly detection

REQUIREMENTS

Must haves:

1. Minimum 3–5 years building backend production systems
2. Strong Python and Go abilities
3. Strong understanding of network fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, etc.
4. Docker and Linux
5. Fluent with AI dev tools, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor etc.

Strong pluses:

• Time-series data at volume (TimescaleDB or similar)
• Message-driven systems
• Software-defined networking, SNMP, OpenFlow/OVS
• Building tools for LLMs ( MCP, function calling
• Experience configuring network equipment
