Opportunity Overview

Our client is a leading digital commerce agency delivering strategy, design, engineering and growth for established D2C and B2B eCommerce brands. As demand grows for builds beyond their core Shopify Plus practice, they are seeking a skilled BigCommerce Developer to design, build and maintain high-performing BigCommerce storefronts for their client base.

Role Description

As a BigCommerce Developer, you will build, customise and maintain BigCommerce stores end to end, from theme development to third-party integrations, for a portfolio of established eCommerce clients. You will work closely with designers, project managers and other developers to translate creative and functional requirements into performant, reliable storefronts. You will troubleshoot platform-specific issues, optimise storefront performance, and integrate with the wider commerce stack.

Key Responsibilities

• BigCommerce Development - Build and customise BigCommerce storefronts using Stencil and the BigCommerce API.
• Theme and Template Work - Develop and modify Stencil themes, Handlebars templates and front-end components to match design specs.
• API and Third-Party Integrations - Integrate stores with ERP, CRM, marketing automation, payment and fulfilment platforms via REST or GraphQL APIs.
• Store Migrations - Support migrations onto BigCommerce from other platforms such as Magento, Shopify or WooCommerce.
• Performance and Troubleshooting - Diagnose and resolve storefront performance, functionality and checkout issues.
• Client-Facing Delivery - Own development tasks across a live project pipeline, proactively communicating progress and blockers.

Minimum Qualifications

• English Fluency - Fluent, excellent written and spoken English is mandatory for this role.
• BigCommerce Expertise - Proven hands-on experience building and customising BigCommerce stores (Stencil, Handlebars, APIs).
• Front-End Fundamentals - Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript; comfortable working from Figma or similar design handoffs.
• API Integration Experience - Demonstrable experience integrating third-party services via REST or GraphQL APIs.
• eCommerce Platform Fluency - Platform experience (BigCommerce, Shopify, Magento or WooCommerce) and storefront and checkout logic understanding.
• Client Communication - Strong client-facing communication, proactive and confident owning delivery deadlines.
• Western Client Experience - Demonstrable experience working with UK or US clients or agencies.

Bonus Qualifications

• BigCommerce Certification - Any formal BigCommerce partner or developer certification.
• Headless Commerce - Experience with headless BigCommerce builds, such as Next.js storefronts via BigCommerce APIs.
• Additional Platforms - Experience with Shopify Plus, Magento or other enterprise eCommerce platforms.
