The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta is seeking a full-time Career Status Teaching Professor to support its French/English bilingual undergraduate program. Fluency in both French and English, with the ability to teach in both languages, is required. We are seeking candidates who are fluent in both French and English and able to teach in both languages at the undergraduate level. While candidates must have an existing ability to teach in French, the Faculty, in partnership with Campus Saint-Jean, provides professional development to support continued growth, including strengthening discipline-specific language and instructional confidence. This is a critical role in supporting the success and continuity of bilingual nursing education within the Faculty. We welcome applications from dynamic educators who are passionate about learner-centered, innovative teaching in a bilingual context. While applicants from all areas of nursing education are welcome, experience in areas such as acute care, maternal-child health, community health, or mental health may be beneficial. Position Overview This is an Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) position with a full-time (1.0 FTE) career status appointment. The workload is 80% teaching and 20% service. The teaching load includes up to 8 courses annually, depending on course credit weighting, which may include teaching in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings. Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor) will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Teaching and Curriculum Contribute actively to assigned teaching teams, including participation in collaborative planning and coordination. Deliver course content in alignment with established learning outcomes, ensuring consistency across course sections. Develop, revise, and share learning activities, assignments, and assessment tools (e.g., exams, rubrics, clinical evaluations). Participate in course evaluation processes and continuous improvement efforts. Support the continuity and progression of key concepts across courses and program levels. Provide mentorship to colleagues through peer coaching, classroom observation, and feedback. Student Support and Engagement Serve as the first point of contact for students, providing timely academic guidance and support. Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students. Build strong learning-centred relationships with students. Connect students to faculty and university supports as needed. Professional Engagement and Service Participate in curriculum renewal and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain teaching effectiveness and current nursing practice. Contribute to Faculty and University governance through committee participation. Support the broader academic and professional community through mentorship and engagement in professional activities. Provide supervision or mentorship for undergraduate and graduate student work, where applicable (e.g., capstone projects, preceptorship, or co-supervision of visiting scholars). Minimum Fluency in both French and English, with the ability to teach in both languages at the undergraduate level. A Master’s degree (a Master’s in Nursing is preferred); a PhD is an asset. Active registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), or eligibility for registration, is required. Demonstrated ability to teach in a post-secondary environment Ability to work on-site in Edmonton, Alberta, as required to support teaching and program delivery Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to learner-centered education. Comfort with educational technologies and adaptable teaching strategies. Immunization status that meets the requirements of the University and affiliated clinical settings. Preferred Experience teaching in a bilingual (French/English) environment Clinical experience in areas such as acute care, maternal-child health, community health, or mental health. Experience in curriculum development or course design. Familiarity with principles that support access, community, and belonging in academic or clinical environments.
