Salary Range: $35.00 To $40.00 Hourly Title : Building Engineer (7AM – 3PM) Department : Building Operations Reports To: Manager of Building Operations Supervises People: No About the Role The Building Engineer will perform preventative and corrective maintenance across all building systems, with a strong emphasis on constructing, installing, and repairing frameworks, structures, and fixtures following strict safety regulations and building codes. The candidate should have considerable carpentry experience but also general knowledge of all trades. This role entails interaction across departments within the organization and with vendors. Our Building Operations team is responsible for planning, communication, execution, and continuous improvement of our headquarters located in Lake Forest, IL. This department is a primary responder to building emergencies, including but not limited to power outages, significant plumbing leaks, fire alarms, and security breaches. The Building Engineer’s core hours will be 7AM – 3PM, Monday through Friday, that may fluctuate depending on the time of year and football season. The role requires flexibility to work alternate hours as needed, including weekends and holidays. Rotational weekend shifts are required during the season. This is an hourly paid position. Responsibilities Carpentry : Build and maintain rough frameworks including but not limited to walls, floor systems and partitions. Doors & Hardware: Execute installations, repairs on doors & door hardware, cabinets, and furniture. Painting: Prepare surfaces, apply paint, and perform touch-ups to maintain the aesthetic and protective integrity of walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. Drywall Repair: Patch holes, repair cracks, and finish drywall surfaces to a professional standard. Maintenance Execute routine preventive maintenance, to troubleshoot, diagnose, and facilitate repairs on all building systems and equipment: Kitchen Equipment: Assess and service a wide range of commercial kitchen equipment, including but not limited to ovens, fryers, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, dishwashers, and various food prep equipment. Plumbing: Diagnose and repair leaks in fixtures, clear clogs, replace faucets, toilets, and other plumbing components. Electrical: Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, replace outlets, switches, light fixtures, ballasts, and perform minor wiring modifications in compliance with electrical codes. HVAC: Annual filter changes and cleaning. Hydrotherapy Pools: Maintain the cleanliness, chemical balance, and proper functioning of hydrotherapy pools and associated equipment. This includes regular testing, cleaning, and preventative maintenance. General Fire Suppression: Annual inspections, monthly churn testing. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment history. Utilize a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) Inspect entire facility daily for any faults (including cosmetic), take initiative to repair, replace or recommend course of action. Set up order s with supply houses and order Building Engineer supplies, tools, and equipment. Assist with inventory management of all equipment on property. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, such as preventative maintenance and repairs, while also effectively collaborating with other technicians and staff on larger projects and shared responsibilities. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Candidates must have previous carpentry experience in a commercial, industrial, or institutional environment. High School diploma/GED required plus 5+ years of work experience or associate degree, technical certification or completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship. Strong tool proficiency including safe operation of hand and power tools. Strong spacial awareness and ability to calculate precise dimensions, angles, and material quantities. Proficiency in general trades knowledge: Basic knowledge and technical understanding in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of equipment covering kitchen cooking and refrigeration, pumping and filtration systems and general mechanical systems. Minor electrical work, including troubleshooting circuits, replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures, and performing minor electrical installations in accordance with safety standards and codes. Basic plumbing skills, including the ability to diagnose and repair leaks, clear clogs, and replace fixtures. A Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) License is preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, such as preventative maintenance and repairs, while also effectively collaborating with other technicians and staff on larger projects and shared responsibilities. Must be organized, able to manage multiple projects, and excel in an ever-changing work environment. Proficiency in reading building plans and blueprints preferred. Ability to safely operate and possess or obtain an operator’s license to operate a forklift, scissor lift & boom lift. Must be able to work non-traditional hours, in non-traditional settings, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. After-hours support will require the ability to respond to issues within 60 minutes. Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable of strenuous activity over extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and move loads appropriate to job requirements with a minimum of 25lbs. Be able to bend and work in a kneeling position for periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, work at/be comfortable with heights as required, enter and work within tight spaces, and withstand hot and cold temperatures. Competitive Industry Pay The Building Engineer is a full-time non-contract position. This position is an HOURLY (non-exempt) role. The expected hourly rate for this role is $35- $40/per hour. Please note that due to job function, regular overtime (paid as time-and-a-half) is expected. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other job-related factors. On-call rotation may apply.
