Business Analyst (Software Implementation, Manufacturing)

Location: Glasgow preferred, remote UK considered

Basis: Part-time, 2 to 3 days per week, with potential to grow to full-time as the UK grows

Term: Initial 6-month term, likely to extend

Rate: £140 to £200 per day depending on experience

About Takticians

Takticians is a New Zealand-founded software company on a mission to help small manufacturers run better businesses.

Most business software is built for big corporates with big budgets. Small manufacturers, the joinery workshops, metal fabricators and food producers that keep the economy running, get left with spreadsheets, clipboards, or heavy legacy systems they can't afford and don't need. We think that's backwards. Our products, FactoryDoor, FactoryFloor and FactoryStore, give small manufacturers one simple platform to run the whole business, without the cost, complexity or consultant dependency of traditional ERP.

We've built something that works in New Zealand, we've signed our first UK clients, and now we're bringing the business to the UK properly. This is one of our first UK hires. You'd be helping carry a Kiwi startup into a new market and shaping how we do it.

The role

Your job is to get our UK clients up and running on the software and make sure they get real value from it.

When a manufacturer signs up, you'll learn how their business actually works, then set the software up to match. That means understanding how a real factory runs, how work moves through a joinery shop or a fabrication shop, where the bottlenecks are, how they quote, schedule and track jobs, and translating that into how the product is configured. From there you'll migrate their data, train their team, and support them through the first few months until they're confident and self-sufficient.

You won't be thrown in alone. You'll work closely with our UK Commercial Lead, who will handle the early client relationships and be alongside you as you learn. Over time, and with training and support, you'll take on more of the client-facing work yourself, including helping bring new clients on board as you grow into the role. There's a genuine path here from learning the ropes to owning UK delivery.

Our co-founder in New Zealand knows the product inside out and is there to support you as you get to grips with it.

What you'll do

  • Learn the Takticians products properly and become the person who knows how to configure them
  • Work with new clients to map their manufacturing processes and set the software up to fit
  • Handle data migration, configuration and workflow setup
  • Run training sessions with client teams, from office staff to the shop floor
  • Support clients through go-live and their first few months on the platform
  • Grow into client-facing and new-business work over time, with training and support along the way
  • Attend expos across the UK and potentially Europe, supporting the team on the stand
  • Feed back what you learn and help shape how we do UK implementation as we scale

Who we're looking for

We'll be honest: this role sits between manufacturing and software, and we're early enough that you'll help us define exactly what it looks like. So we care more about how you think than about a specific CV.

What matters most

  • You're sharp, curious, and you pick things up fast
  • You can get your head around how a business or a process works, and you enjoy that kind of problem
  • You're comfortable with software and confident learning new systems
  • You can explain something clearly to someone who isn't technical
  • You're happy dealing with clients, or ready to grow into it with support

Helpful, but not essential

  • A degree in business, management, engineering, supply chain, computing or something similarly analytical
  • A couple of years' experience in a role involving software, operations, analysis or manufacturing, though strong recent graduates are very welcome
  • Any exposure to how physical products get made
  • An interest in how small businesses actually run
  • Open-mindeness to working in a start-up enviornment

You don't need to tick every box. If you're bright, motivated and excited by this, we want to hear from you!

What it's like to work here

This is a startup, and a small one, so it's worth being clear about what that means.

It isn't a structured corporate job. You'll wear several hats and pick up things that wouldn't sit in a neat job description. The path isn't fully mapped, because we're carving it out as we go, and you'd be helping carve it. Because the founding team is in New Zealand, there'll be the occasional call at an unusual hour, and you'll need to be flexible and willing to roll your sleeves up.

In return, you get what a big company can't offer. Your ideas are heard and acted on quickly, with no layers of sign-off in the way. You'll learn an enormous amount, fast, across areas you'd never touch elsewhere. You'll be one of the first people building something in a new market. And you'll be doing genuine good, helping the small manufacturers that everyone else overlooks.

If you want a defined role with clear edges, this isn't it. If you want to help build something and grow with it, it might be exactly right.

The practical details

This is a part-time role of 2 to 3 days per week, and we're flexible on which days work best for you. The engagement runs for an initial six months and is very likely to extend, with real potential to grow into a larger and eventually full-time role as the UK business grows.

You'd be engaged through an umbrella company, which handles tax and payroll on your behalf. If you haven't worked this way before, it's straightforward, and we're happy to explain how it works.

How to apply

Apply here or email your CV to [email protected], along with a few lines on why this appeals to you and a time you had to get to grips with something new and complicated, and how you worked it out.

We're not looking for the perfect CV. We're looking for the right person.
