Organisational Context

The British Tourist Authority (BTA) is the national tourism agency and a non-departmental public body funded by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and trades under the name of VisitBritain/VisitEngland (VB/VE).

We are a global organisation with a diverse culture. Our 280+ employees work across the UK’s nations and regions and in 21 overseas markets. Our purpose is to drive a thriving tourism industry, creating sustainable economic growth across Britain.

VisitBritain drives growth from tourism across the nations and regions so local communities feel the benefits. As a partner of the GREAT campaign, we work with the national tourist boards for Britain as well as with industry and non-industry partners to mount our global campaigns which inspire visitors to explore Britain now.

VisitEngland works to make England’s visitor economy resilient, sustainable and world-class. Having developed a simplified a regional structure for English tourism, together we grow local visitor economies and to drive sustainable and inclusive growth. We also help English destinations to win international business events,

Collectively, we are a trusted advisor to industry and to Government on the visitor economy, providing research and insights.

As one global team, we work together with Passion, in Partnership and at Pace:

  • with Passion - fuelled by our enthusiasm and positivity to deliver excellent results.
  • in Partnership – empowered to work with partners towards a greater aim beyond our own.
  • at Pace – delivering innovation through agility, boldness, and bravery to take calculated risk.

Location and Ways of Working

We follow the principle of “Locate for your Day,” which means that we expect people to use their own judgment to decide the best place to work to meet the needs of the business.

The majority of our roles can be performed predominantly remotely, however, we are not a fully remote organisation as we recognise the importance of face-to-face connection, so you will be expected to spend some time in the office.

We operate from our Global Hub at Victoria Square House in Birmingham and maintain a small presence in Central London.

Our Global Hub is located in Birmingham, which is our primary location, however, many of our employees are located across the UK. Therefore, working in another location may be required on occasion. You will be expected to commute to your usual place (Birmingham) of work at your own cost and any requests for you to travel further will be compensated.

Main purpose of the role

The Data & Analytics (D&A) team is at the heart of VisitBritain/VisitEngland’s ambition to be a data-led organisation. This BI Lead role provides maternity cover for a critical position within the team, responsible for delivering the business intelligence and reporting capability that supports evidence-based decision making across the organisation.

The role delivers dashboard and self-service reporting capability using Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, working within the D&A team’s established delivery standards and sprint-based working practices. The team is actively exploring how AI-assisted analytics can be embedded into day-to-day workflows.

The postholder is the sole BI resource in the team and plays a central role in maintaining reporting continuity during a significant period of organisational change, including the transition away from the external data transformation partner. The BI Lead will report into the Head of Data & Analytics and work closely with the Data Engineer, Analytics Lead, and BA.

Key tools and standards you will be expected to work within include:

  • Power BI and Microsoft Fabric for dashboard development and self-service analytics.
  • Azure Databricks for building and maintaining semantic and view layers that underpin reporting.
  • Jira for sprint and roadmap management.
  • SQL as the primary language for data querying, transformation, and view development.
  • Azure DevOps for source control and version management of BI assets.

Coding standards and peer review processes mandated by the D&A team.

Please refer to the job description for more detail.
