The First Line of Defense Financial Crimes Risk & Controls Center of Excellence provides an enterprise-wide approach to managing financial crime risk within Global Servicing. The team supports the development of strong controls across areas including anti-money laundering, sanctions, payments, and anti-corruption. Working closely with Technology, Business, Servicing, and Compliance teams, the Financial Crimes Data Analytics Intern will use data to help identify emerging risks, evaluate potential control gaps, and support improvements to financial crime monitoring and reporting. The 1LOD Financial Crimes Risk & Controls Team is seeking a Financial Crimes Data Analytics and Reporting Intern. This role is designed for a bachelor’s degree graduate with strong analytical and technical skills who is interested in applying data analytics to financial crime risk management. Responsibilities include: Analyze financial crime data to identify trends, anomalies, emerging risks, and potential control gaps. Use SQL, Python, and data analysis tools to work with large and complex datasets. Translate analytical findings into clear, practical recommendations. Suggest potential controls and process improvements to help reduce financial crime risk. Assist with evaluating the effectiveness of existing financial crime controls. Prepare presentations and summaries for technical and non-technical stakeholders. Required Qualifications Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in data science, analytics, computer science, statistics, economics, finance, mathematics, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028. Preferred Qualifications Strong knowledge of SQL, Python, and data analysis or visualization tools. Ability to analyze data, identify meaningful insights, and develop data-driven recommendations. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills. Ability to communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Interest in financial services, financial crime risk management, and control development. Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
