Position Title: Capital Project Manager Pay Rate : PL 14 $82,500-110,000 Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Category/Shift : Salaried Full-Time Physical Location : Remote, significant travel required The Job You Will Perform: Position is responsible for providing expert leadership and management during the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases of capital projects. Typically we involve the Project Manager during the Front End Loading (FEL) development phases of the Project Delivery Process (PDP). Key Customers for the position vary by project. Generally key customers include (but not limited to) Investment Manager, Capital Projects Leader, Business Unit Manager(s), Facility Manager(s), Business Leadership. Key actions would entail the management of all engineering, procurement, and construction activities for a capital project, ensuring proper and adequate resources are deployed to meet all project objectives, and timely communication of project status/issues to key stakeholders. Responsible for working with the Capital Projects Leader and/or Project Investment Manager for the development of the project team organization structure and subsequent timely deployment of the identified resources. The role may be assigned a key, critical role on a larger project as a member of the project lead team. Responsible for the development of applicable technical specifications for the acquisition of equipment, materials, engineering services and contractor services. Leads the team effort during the supplier qualification and selection phases and directly participates in contract negotiations. Responsible for developing and maintaining the integrated project schedule. Coordinates all activities associated with the project by the facility, equipment suppliers, engineering and contracted services, facility plans, etc. into an integrated project plan congruent with the CIP objectives. Responsible for developing and maintaining proper project controls. This includes formulation of proper work breakdown structure, cost tracking / forecasting & accruals, schedule compliance, project documentation / records retention, and EHS compliance / documentation. Ensures proper change management policies are established and maintains strict adherence to both Capital Investment and Financial policies. Responsible for communicating project status to key customers and project team members. This to include progress against plans, budget status and forecasts, safety results and issues, emerging risks to the project and any deviations from the approved project goals. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization. Responsible for ensuring current applicable Best Practices and Value Improving Processes are identified and integrated into the project implementation strategy. Responsible for process and design engineering deliverables. Monitor engineering consultant work to ensure cost effectiveness, functionality, maintainability, and safe design. Works to establish and control the scope of work, engineering costs, and deviations to budget. Ensures proper utilization and alignment with the key stakeholders and subject matter experts in the evaluation of options and technical alternatives. Responsible for the overall management and coordination of all construction activities from the beginning of the project to start-up. Responsible for all aspects of quality, cost and personnel safety. Responsible for working cohesively with appropriate facility operations and maintenance organizations to ensure successful transition from an engineered and constructed project to an operating asset. Develops construction completion and check-out protocol congruent with the commissioning and start-up needs. Responsible for timely closing of project to include proper verification of process performance, formal transfer of documentation and materials, final financial accounting / close-out, and project demobilization. Significant challenges with this position could vary widely based on the nature, size, complexity and location of the project. A major challenge frequently encountered is procuring the necessary qualified resources in engineering and contracted services communities to properly execute the project within the assigned budget and schedule. Attaining a working knowledge of local practices, codes, and culture is also critical to success. A key challenge in this position would be to achieve alignment on the objectives, goals, and the primary drivers of the project. The person in the Project Manager position must possess the capability of leading and aligning potentially largely diverse group representing multiple entities towards successful achievement of the project goals established in the CIP. For the most part, the Project Manager must demonstrate the flexibility for extended travel and non-routine business hours in successful execution of their duties. The Project Manager must also be capable of effectively performing duties in a dynamic and constantly changing environment and pro-actively adjust to same while continuing major focus on achieving the successful end result.
