The Career Pathways Specialist works to deliver the Seek2Sea Apprenticeship Program- a program focused on increasing awareness of and access to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers for traditionally underrepresented populations across the Greater Boston Area. Related to this work, the Specialist will support the Apprentices by recruiting, onboarding, coordinating training, facilitating professional development and networking sessions, and providing career services. The Specialist will also collaborate to design and deliver learning opportunities and engagement activities across volunteer and internship programs to build skills and experiences related to career development, while increasing their connection to our mission and building their sense of belonging in the NEAq community. Housed within the Talent & Culture division of New England Aquarium, this role reports to the Associate Director of Volunteer Programs & Internships. This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Tuesday - Saturday. Shifts will be 8 hours with a flexible start time between 8am – 10am. This role has the option for a hybrid schedule, working up to two days remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, NY and VT. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Partners with the Associate Director, Volunteer Programs & Internships to develop new apprenticeship opportunities by collaborating with host departments to create meaningful position descriptions and comprehensive training plans. Manages the recruitment process for apprenticeship positions, including posting opportunities, promoting programs, and cultivating relationships with colleges and community partners to attract a diverse and qualified applicant pool. Interacts with partner organizations and clients from the community in ways that create a welcoming and inclusive tone and a mutually beneficial relationship that focuses on visibility and collaboration. Coordinates the full apprenticeship lifecycle, including receiving, tracking, and processing applications in Salesforce, conducting initial applicant screenings, and facilitating placement. Also supports the recruitment, screening, and placement of volunteers and interns across the organization. Coordinates professional development logistics and lesson plans, and when appropriate, facilitates interactive workshops and special events supporting Apprentice, Volunteer, Intern, and Supervisor learning and development. Delivers career support services to Apprentices with the goal of aiding them in finding their next role at completion of the program. Develops and manages projects and event timelines and ensures timely delivery by coordinating project activities and communicating effectively with internal and external collaborators. Monitors progress and ensures stakeholders, partners, and leadership are informed and aligned throughout the project lifecycle. Along with other members of the team, serves as a point of contact for current and prospective apprentices, volunteers, and interns, responding to a high volume of phone and email inquiries with professionalism, responsiveness, and exceptional customer service. Aid in the design and delivery of a variety of benefits, appreciation programs, and recognition events serving the broader Volunteer, Intern & Teen communities. Support initiatives and provide periodic coverage for Volunteer Programs and Internships and the broader Talent and culture team. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Training and Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 2-3 years of demonstrated professional experience in career services, workforce development, or human resources. Experience with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding. Experience with project planning and management, ensuring timely delivery and effective collaboration with internal and external partners. Experience in the design and delivery of adult education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proven ability to communicate clearly and calmly and demonstrate emotional intelligence in a variety of situations, including dialogue and written exchanges. Proven collaboration skills validated through prior experience successfully working with collaborators to deliver on project plans. Knowledge of and experience with greater Boston communities and resources. Passion and skills for networking, developing relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, and building strong ties in the community. Interest in and commitment to the mission of New England Aquarium. Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred.
