Mesa Associates is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to join our nuclear services team and contribute to the design, analysis, and construction of nuclear facilities. This is an opportunity to play a critical role in the engineering and design processes for commercial nuclear power generation. Mesa's strategic growth strategy for our commercial nuclear division is to create a ready service pool of available staff to support proposals and projects in nuclear generation. The position is hybrid working a minimum of 3 days in the office, typically Tuesday through Thursday, with the ability to work from home the remaining workdays. Candidates must be able to travel to plant sites when needed (approx. 6-8 days/month with ability to support longer durations). Education/Experience/Licensure: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university ( required ) – structural engineering emphasis (highly preferred) Master of Science or other advanced degree in engineering (preferred) PE registration (highly preferred) – or ability to obtain PE License within one year of employment ( required ) Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design (required) and 2 years’ experience in design of modifications in nuclear (DOE or commercial) plants (preferred) Experience working with multiple operating nuclear clients and vendors (preferred) On-site and past unescorted access (highly preferred) or ability to obtain unescorted access at an operating or construction nuclear plant ( required ) Experience with Industry Standard Design Procedure IP-ENG-001 ( required ) Strong knowledge of civil design codes (AISC, ASTM, ACI) Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite). Additional software skills including Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Vault, Risa, ANSYS (preferred) Responsibilities: Prepare scoping documents and proposals to determine extent of modifications required, preparing cost estimates for engineering/design activities for Civil Report to an assigned engineering supervisor on multi-discipline proposals and projects and act as a Responsible Engineer for Civil projects when required Conduct field walkdowns to determine existing configuration of plant structures, systems, and components Perform a broad range of Civil design activities to support development of design change documentation Be responsible for working with other engineers and designers to prepare design change packages for modifications at operating nuclear plants and other associated nuclear facilities Be proficient in preparation of engineering change packages (EC’s), Engineering calculations, reports, review and check structural drawings Follow a strict adherence to civil codes and standards Successful candidates will: Possess the ability to interpret codes, regulations, and standard practices Be able to demonstrate adaptability; must be proficient in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving issues within a nuclear power plant environment Have effective oral and written communication skills (including technical writing) Possess excellent communication skills and ability to interface with customers and internal team members under a matrixed organization Notice to External Search Firms: Mesa Associates, Inc. and its subsidiaries do not accept unsolicited resumes and will not be obligated to pay a placement fee for unsolicited resumes.
