This Client Manager role offers two things most practice jobs cannot: you will report directly to a CFO and work with them on live commercial projects, and you will run your portfolio using frontier AI tools that we have built in-house. If you are qualified (or a finalist) and want more than month-end, read on.
About Ignition
Ignition is a CFO-led accounting and advisory firm for founder-led UK businesses, typically £1m–£10m turnover: companies building their first full finance function, raising investment, or preparing for a sale. We run each client's finance function end to end — monthly management accounts, forecasting, board reporting and CFO-level advice, with compliance handled properly alongside. We are regulated by the ICAEW, and our team works fully remotely across the UK and India.
The role
We are looking for an experienced Client Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of growing businesses. Portfolios are deliberately smaller than in most practices: our offshore team handles bookkeeping and accounts preparation, so your time goes on review, analysis and clients. You will:
- Act as the main point of contact for your clients, building strong relationships with founders and their teams
- Review work prepared by our offshore team and take responsibility for its quality
- Deliver monthly management accounts, reports and forecasts your clients rely on to run their businesses
- Walk clients through their numbers each month and handle day-to-day questions
- Support our CFOs on advisory work, including forecasting, fundraising and exit planning
Working directly with a CFO
You report to one of our CFOs, who leads each client at board level. In practice, that means an experienced finance leader reviewing your work, coaching you, and bringing you into commercial projects — fundraises, restructures, exit planning — far earlier than most practice roles allow. It is the kind of development many accountants wait a decade for, and here it is built into the structure of the role. The progression path is clear: senior client management, and in time our CFO team.
Frontier technology
Most firms are still working out what AI means for them. We have built our own platform. FinanceOS runs the data, working papers, forecasting and review tooling behind every client, automating routine preparation so that your time goes on judgement and advice. AI supports preparation and analysis; every piece of work that reaches a client is reviewed and approved by a qualified accountant, as you would expect from a regulated firm. You will build hands-on AI experience that is still rare in the profession, and because the platform is still developing, you will have a real say in how it evolves.
About you
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or a finalist with your final exams approaching — we fund and support study.
- Experience managing a client portfolio, or a substantial part of one, within practice
- Strong management accounts and month-end skills, and confidence with cloud software — ideally Xero (including add-ons) or QuickBooks Online, with strong Excel.
- Comfortable explaining numbers to business owners in plain English — client contact is a core part of the role
This is a full-time position with plenty of flexibility in how you organise your day. We are building the firm for the long term and are looking for someone who wants to grow with it.
What we offer
- £45,000–£60,000, depending on qualification and experience
- Performance bonus of up to 10%
- 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
- Study support for finalists, including tuition, exam fees and paid study leave
- Fully remote working from anywhere in the UK
- Laptop and equipment provided
