Position Overview

The College Application Specialist (CAS) is a specialized senior mentoring role focused on supporting juniors and seniors through the most demanding stages of the college admissions process. CAS are seasoned strategists and exceptional writers who serve as subject-matter experts on all aspects of the U.S. college application process.

In addition to one-on-one student mentorship, the CAS will play a strategic support role across their team—offering specialized application guidance, conducting mock profile reviews, contributing to internal resources, and elevating best practices for mentors and families navigating the senior year.

This role combines deep mentorship expertise with cross-functional impact and is best suited for experienced mentors with a passion for the storytelling, strategic, and logistical nuances of selective admissions.

Key Responsibilities

Student Mentorship & Development

  • Provide full-service mentorship for a roster of students, specializing in seniors and rising seniors preparing for selective and competitive college applications. Capacity may adjust at management discretion to best serve students and maintain program excellence.
  • Deliver strategic guidance on college list building, personal narratives, and application positioning.
  • Guide students through the writing and revision of compelling personal statements, supplements, activity lists, and scholarship materials
  • Help students manage timelines, deadlines, and communications across multiple application platforms (Common App, UCAS, etc.)
  • Conduct mock interviews, final reviews, and application quality checks before submission.
  • Maintain detailed roadmaps and weekly action items tailored to each student’s goals and application deadlines.
  • Join parent calls to provide updates, address questions, and reinforce strategy.

Strategic Admissions Support

  • Conduct strategic profile reviews (mock admissions reads) for juniors and seniors on your team and provide mentors with written feedback.
  • Serve as an escalation point for high-stakes application strategy or unique cases (e.g., reapplicants, artistic portfolios, athletic recruitment, etc.).
  • Provide targeted insight on student positioning at top 30 colleges based on historical trends and current admissions shifts.
  • Serve as a senior application strategist on your mentoring team, supporting mentors through essay structure, narrative strategy, and school-specific approaches.

Internal Collaboration & Resource Development

  • Build tools and/or templates that streamline the senior year application process (e.g., application calendars, sample supplements, strategy one-pagers).
  • Collaborate with your Director of Mentoring and VP of Mentorship Strategy on elevating Command’s admissions playbook and mentor resources.
  • Participate in team-wide professional development, especially leading or co-leading training on senior-year best practices and writing strategy.
  • Share application trends and updates with your team in an accessible, digestible format.

Requirements:

Our families come to us with the goal of helping their children gain admission to the most selective universities in the world, including the Ivy League. To meet that expectation, all of our mentors are graduates of Ivy League or Ivy+ universities. This ensures our team brings first-hand experience, credibility, and a deep understanding of the admissions process at the institutions our students aspire to attend.

As a College Application Specialist you’ll join a team of highly accomplished educators and advisors who combine exceptional academic backgrounds with a passion for guiding students through their high school journey and college applications.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an Ivy League institution required; Ivy+ universities also considered
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills, excellent follow-through, and ability to come up with creative solutions
  • Excellent attention to detail as well as strong editing and writing skills
  • High level of enthusiasm and energy for working with students and a small team of passionate educators
  • Previous experience in education, whether advising, mentoring, teaching, and/or tutoring, preferred

What we offer you:

This role is being hired at Tier 2 within our career framework, with a targeted base salary range of $90,000-$96,000. This position is part of a broader multi-tier structure, and compensation may vary over time based on experience, performance, and internal advancement opportunities. In accordance with applicable law, this range represents the Company’s good faith estimate of the base salary for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and geographic location.

  • Remote work environment
  • Health (medical, dental, and vision) insurance

  • Unlimited PTO
  • Eligible for performance based bonus(es)
  • Team offsite
  • Professional development opportunities
