Department Overview: Student Affairs is dedicated to helping students succeed in and outside of the classroom. Anticipated Start Date: 9/1/2026 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 10 Maximum: 15 Schedule: Flexible, established around class schedule. Must be able to work 10-15 hours during office hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Some evening and weekend hours may be required for project for such as special events, photo shoots, table hosting, etc. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $15.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Pursuing a degree in journalism, English, communications, or related field Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong attention to detail Experience with writing for various platforms, including social media, websites, and blogs Must be able to work independently and in a team-oriented setting Able to work 10-15 hours per week Willing to work at least one day in office Preferred Qualifications: Experience with social media, video, and editing Comfortable conducting in-person interviews Familiarity with using print and digital communication strategies to reach a variety of audiences Experience using graphic design tools such as Canva Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Strong interpersonal communication skills Aptitude to handle multiple projects simultaneously, while consistently meeting deadlines Energy to work both under general direction, collaboratively with others, and independently Eager to get creative and explore unconventional approaches Commitment to accuracy, efficiency, and detail management Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and creative initiative Humor – always a plus Position Summary/Job Duties: We are seeking a student writer and storyteller to work with the communications manager for new students, who leads promotions for big efforts such Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) and Wisconsin Welcome, to develop messaging and stories geared toward supporting new students and their families throughout the year. The communications intern will work with a team of professional staff and students to develop written and multimedia content primarily geared toward these groups on platforms including social media, websites, blogs, and more. The successful candidate is an exceptional communicator, team player, and creative collaborator. The position is expected to provide assistance on a variety of administrative tasks including but not limited to: social media support, website updates, communication with students, editorial calendar management, design, and other duties as assigned.
