About the position: The Corps Network seeks a Communications Intern to work a hybrid schedule for 16-20 hours per week. The ideal candidate must be able to commit through at least the beginning of December 2026, but the position may be extended beyond. This position is suited for a rising Junior or Senior in college, or a recent college graduate. Working with the Communications Manager, the intern will help create media lists, write articles, blog posts, and press releases; assist with social media, press outreach, and email outreach; assist with basic website maintenance; help with event planning and implementation; and may be asked to help prepare visual materials (handouts, videos, graphics, etc.). The selected candidate for this position will benefit from gaining experience with a wide range of communications tools. This position will provide the intern the opportunity to: develop a professional communications writing portfolio, have his/her written work published online; build his/her media relations skills, gain social media content creation and management skills in a professional setting, manage the back-end of a website; learn the basics of various software programs commonly used in the communications field. Continuing the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s, today’s Corps are comprehensive youth development programs that engage participants in meaningful service projects, job training, and academic programming. They are leading workforce development organizations that match young people with in-demand careers and topics they are passionate about, including conservation, climate change resilience, and disaster relief. Through advocacy, and by providing Corps with expert guidance and access to funding opportunities, The Corps Network annually enables over 22,000 Corpsmembers, ages 16-25, to strengthen communities, improve the environment and transform their lives through service. Primary duties: Tasks could include: Researching and drafting articles and thought leadership pieces Collecting and indexing stories and news from our 140+ Corps across the country and sharing them on our website and social media channels Developing social media graphics Drafting press releases and pitches Creating, refining, and managing media lists Helping produce email newsletters Helping edit The Corps Network’s Annual Report Helping create handouts/fact sheets and website graphics using Adobe Creative Suite Assisting with basic maintenance of The Corps Network’s website Helping with preparation for The Corps Network’s annual National Conference (compiling PowerPoint presentations, help with email marketing, etc.) Ideal candidates will have: Excellent writing and research skills. Public relations, social media marketing, content creation, and/or journalism experience a plus. Coursework in these areas can also be relevant. Command of social media tools for professional use and and experience using sites and tools like Facebook, X, Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn, etc. Basic photo editing skills. Graphic design skills/more advanced experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator a plus. Interest in environmental issues, conservation, volunteering, youth development, national service, and green jobs. Ability to work a hybrid schedule with some hours worked in the Washington, DC office and others from a quiet, private virtual work location.
