Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Compliance Generalist will be responsible for compliance activities specific to High-Risk areas that align with the foundational principles set forth by the U.S. Office of Inspector General (OIG) for effective healthcare compliance programs. Such activities may involve monitoring, auditing, advising, drafting policies and procedures, developing and delivering training and education, and researching content specific to the High-Risk area. The subject matter may change from year to year based upon regulatory environment changes and internal organizational shifts. This individual will be responsible for supporting prompt investigations of compliance violations or risks. The role requires someone who can work independently, take initiative in meeting deadlines, make sound decisions, and offer thoughtful recommendations. Essential Job Functions The Compliance Generalist will work closely on identified High-Risk compliance focus areas, assisting with investigations, monitoring, tracking and reporting for operational compliance, supporting compliance awareness and training, and promoting a culture of compliance across the organization. Collaboration with key stakeholders, including leaders, associates, and vendors on compliance concerns, inquiries, policies, and auditing and monitoring activities. Research regulations, laws, policies, drafting engagement letters, review records, identify opportunities, and implement and monitor corrective action plans to support auditing and monitoring of high-risk areas for compliance risk areas. Serves as an initial point of contact and triages reports of potential non-compliance within the assigned functional area. Monitors, documents, and responds to inquiries and reported concerns received via the compliance Helpline. Participates in compliance focus area specific workgroups or committees. Coordinates daily operational activities with compliance vendor systems and oversees resolution of service-related issues. Work collaboratively with other Compliance Generalist to develop reports, mitigation plans, and risk assessments related to the specified High-Risk areas. Assists in developing proactive, comprehensive educational programs to promote compliance awareness and competency across the ministry. Conducts research and provide recommendations for changes for annual review of compliance policies and procedures. Licensing/Certification Certified in Healthcare Compliance – Health Care Compliance Association (preferred) Education Bachelors, Healthcare operations, business administration or related field (required) Work Experience 1-3 Years of experience in healthcare compliance (required) Knowledge of healthcare systems (preferred) Knowledge of Healthcare laws (preferred) Training None Skills Maintain working knowledge of key healthcare regulations (HIPAA, CMS, OIG, Stark, Anti-Kickback, etc.) Support the development and daily operation of core Compliance Program elements. Apply basic auditing and monitoring protocols to assist in fact-finding during compliance reviews. Draft, edit, and maintain policies and procedures under direction and guidance. Accurately enter and routinely update compliance documentation in designated systems. Assist with the preparation and delivery of compliance education and training materials. Collect and synthesize compliance data to prepare summary reports. Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Navigate electronic medical record systems to retrieve and review relevant documentation. Coordinate and communicate effectively with compliance and operational stakeholders. Exercise sound critical thinking and apply problem-solving in day-to-day compliance work. Actively listen and communicate clearly in both verbal and written formats. Build trust and credibility with peers and operational staff. Adapt to shifting priorities and changing regulatory requirements. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate ethical judgment. Utilize conflict resolution skills in professional interactions. Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Contribute to and reinforce a culture of compliance. Maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy in all documentation and reporting.
