Job Description: We are seeking an experienced AML & Compliance Officer to support our client's legal practice, with a particular focus on conveyancing and property transactions. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing conveyancing files and providing compliance sign-off on matter risk assessments, client due diligence, and source of funds before matters are escalated to senior lawyers. This is a hands-on compliance role requiring strong knowledge of AML regulations, KYC/CDD procedures, source of funds and source of wealth assessments, and risk-based client onboarding. The ideal candidate will be confident independently reviewing files, identifying potential compliance risks, requesting additional information where required, and determining whether a matter meets the firm's AML requirements. Responsibilities: Review conveyancing files for compliance with the firm's AML and client due diligence requirements. Review and sign off matter risk assessments before files progress to senior lawyer review. Conduct and review source of funds (SOF) and source of wealth (SOW) assessments for property transactions. Review client identification, KYC, CDD, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) documentation. Apply a risk-based approach when assessing clients, transactions, jurisdictions, and funding arrangements. Identify inconsistencies, unusual transactions, or AML red flags within conveyancing matters. Request additional evidence or clarification where source of funds or client information is insufficient. Escalate high-risk matters, suspicious activity, or compliance concerns to the appropriate senior lawyer or compliance lead. Conduct AML risk assessments for new and existing clients and matters. Assist with suspicious activity monitoring and regulatory reporting processes where required. Maintain accurate records of AML reviews, risk assessments, decisions, and compliance sign-offs. Develop, review, and maintain AML policies, procedures, controls, and internal compliance frameworks. Ensure AML processes remain aligned with relevant regulatory and professional requirements. Support internal AML audits and compliance reviews. Assist with AML training and promote a strong compliance culture across the firm. Conduct due diligence and ongoing monitoring of relevant vendors and third parties. Provide compliance reporting and insights to senior management regarding AML risks, trends, and areas requiring attention. Work with legal and operational teams to continuously improve AML processes and workflows. Qualifications: 3+ years of experience in AML, financial crime, risk, or regulatory compliance. Previous experience working within a law firm, conveyancing practice, property practice, financial services organization, or other regulated professional services environment is highly desirable. Strong practical experience reviewing source of funds and source of wealth, particularly for higher-value transactions. Demonstrated experience conducting and reviewing matter/client risk assessments. Strong knowledge of KYC, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring, and risk-based AML procedures. Experience identifying AML red flags and escalating potentially suspicious activity. Strong understanding of AML compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements. Experience with FCA, SRA, UK GDPR, or comparable regulatory frameworks is highly regarded. Experience drafting, reviewing, and implementing AML policies and procedures. Strong analytical skills and the confidence to independently make compliance decisions and provide file sign-off. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies within financial and client documentation. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Ability to confidently communicate compliance requirements to lawyers, clients, and internal stakeholders. Highly organized and capable of managing multiple conveyancing file reviews and deadlines. Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
