Department Summary The Diversity and Access Office is a small, high-impact unit within the Office of Institutional Equity, Access, and Community responsible for University-wide compliance with federal, state, and local regulations concerning disability access and non-discrimination. The office culture emphasizes teamwork, strong work ethic, compassion for others, and commitment to Stanford's mission. Position Summary The Compliance Affairs Coordinator provides critical administrative and programmatic support in areas including disability access compliance, civil rights compliance, education policy, and employment compliance. This fixed-term position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the Director, Diversity and Access Office and Disability Affairs & Non-Discrimination Compliance Associate in areas including ADA/Section 504/503 compliance, grievance investigations, accommodation determinations, EEO/affirmative action, and federal compliance processes. The Coordinator serves as first responder for disability access and accommodation inquiries, exercises independent judgment in assessing and routing matters, and provides essential support for major University events including Commencement, Parent's Weekend, Admit Weekend, and Reunion Homecoming. This role also involves supporting investigation of complaints under various University grievance procedures, organizing accommodation requests, and managing complex administrative operations for the office. This role is ideal for individuals who want hands-on experience in disability access or civil rights compliance with strong analytical and writing skills seeking to build expertise in compliance, or professionals with experience or strong interest in disability compliance in higher education settings. The Coordinator will receive mentorship and training in highly specialized compliance areas while contributing to ensuring Stanford's compliance with disability access and civil rights obligations for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. In addition to the minimum requirements, the following skills and experience are preferred: Legal coursework, or demonstrated interest in quasi-legal subject matter (particularly with interest in disability access, civil rights, education policy, or employment compliance) Experience or coursework in disability access, ADA compliance, civil rights compliance, or related fields in higher education or other settings Familiarity with federal and state disability access and non-discrimination laws (ADA, Section 504, Section 503, FEHA, etc.) Experience with web content management systems (e.g., Drupal), survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics) and data management Experience coordinating accommodations for or otherwise serving at large-scale events (500+ attendees) Complaint investigation or fact-gathering experience Core Duties : Provide support with the interpretation and implementation of University policy and procedures in accordance with federal regulations and state statutes related to institutional compliance; prepare and disseminate compliance information. Assist management in developing and implementing compliance/privacy plans for the university. Assist in the development of university policies or practices to help ensure compliance with federal, state and local law and regulations and other provisions. Contribute to the development of improved delivery processes for compliance/privacy related training. Promote program awareness. Provide analytical support to system initiatives. Evaluate emerging trends in higher education and government and assist in implementing best practices. Communicate the results of compliance/privacy projects via oral and written reports. Develop and maintain productive customer and staff relationships. Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree Minimum Experience: Two years of audit, compliance or other relevant experience in industry, higher education, health care or non-profit organizations or combination of education and relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Demonstrated analytical skills with ability to identify and assess risk and exposures across a wide variety of processes. Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team or independently as an individual contributor. Strong customer focus. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement. Understanding of state and federal statutes, laws and regulations.
