About Movel AI
Movel AI is a Singapore-based robotics and AI company. We build computer vision and autonomy systems for real-world deployments, from robotic fleet integration at large-scale facilities to sports analytics products for commercial venues. Our engineering team works across research, prototyping, and production deployment.
The Role
We are building an automated match scoring system using a single mounted camera to detect the ball, track trajectories, identify bounces, and generate live scoring through a web interface with operator override.
You will work on the computer vision pipeline, owning the end-to-end vision stack from camera input to structured event output for the scoring engine. You will work with a supporting engineer, annotation team, and Movel AI leadership.
This is a 4-month engagement delivering the first-generation system for a client, with potential extension into Phase 2: hardware integration, edge GPU deployment, and higher-accuracy optimisation. Successful delivery may lead to a long-term role developing the product across multiple venues.
What You'll Do
Own the Computer Vision Pipeline
- Design and build computer vision pipelines for real-world AI applications, including object detection, tracking, and event understanding.
- Develop and improve AI models to process video data and extract meaningful insights.
- Work on challenges such as camera calibration, spatial understanding, and real-time inference.
Build Production-Ready AI Systems
- Train, evaluate, and optimise machine learning models using real-world datasets.
- Analyse performance, identify failure cases, and improve system reliability.
- Translate research ideas into practical solutions deployed in production environments.
Collaborate Across Teams
- Work with engineers and data teams to define requirements, improve datasets, and integrate AI capabilities into products.
- Support the development of AI-powered applications, including computer vision systems for sports analytics such as automated padel match analysis.
Support Deployment and Improvement
- Optimise AI solutions for real-time applications and different hardware environments.
- Assist with testing, deployment, and calibration of AI systems in customer environments.
Communicate and Document
- Share technical progress, experiments, and results with internal teams and stakeholders.
- Document system architecture, technical decisions, and performance improvements.
What You'll Need
Required
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in computer vision and machine learning, with experience delivering production systems.
- Strong understanding of object detection, tracking, and video analytics in real-world environments.
- Strong Python programming skills with experience using deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Practical experience with OpenCV and computer vision techniques.
- Experience building, training, evaluating, and debugging AI models.
- Ability to work with large-scale video data, including processing, analysis, and optimisation.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and improve AI system performance.
- Good written and spoken English for technical discussions and stakeholder communication.
- Highly Preferred
- Experience with real-time computer vision applications such as sports analytics, robotics, or industrial AI systems.
- Experience deploying AI models on edge devices or optimising models for real-time inference.
- Experience with camera calibration and multi-view geometry.
- Experience building machine learning datasets and working with annotation workflows.
- Familiarity with modern object detection and tracking frameworks.
- Experience working in a startup environment with fast iteration cycles.
How We Work
- Remote-first team with a fixed daily status call at a fixed time.
- Clear monthly milestones with defined acceptance criteria. You will not be guessing what "done" means.
- Direct access to the technical lead and to the client for questions and decisions. Short decision loops.
- Honest technical discussions. If something is not going to work, we would rather know in Week 2 than Week 4.
- Documentation as we build, not as an afterthought.
Engagement Terms
- Contract role for 4 months (Phase 1).
- Extension to Phase 2 (6 weeks) subject to client sign-off, on the same terms.
- Potential conversion to full-time role after Phase 2, subject to mutual interest and business needs.
- Payment monthly against milestone-based deliverables.
- Compensation is competitive for the level and geography; we will discuss numbers in the first call and are transparent about our budget.
How to Apply
Send the following to [email protected]:
- Your CV or LinkedIn profile.
- A short cover note (a few paragraphs is fine) describing one CV project you have shipped, what problem it solved, what your specific contribution was, and what did not work along the way. Honest failure stories interest us more than polished success stories.
- Links to code, papers, demos, or portfolio pieces if you have any that are public.
- Your notice period and earliest availability.
- Your expected monthly compensation range.
Selection Process
We aim to move quickly:
- Application review: within 5 business days.
- Initial screening call: 30 minutes with the technical lead, discussing your background, the role, and mutual fit.
- Technical interview: 60 to 90 minutes, going deep on one or two of your past CV projects, plus a discussion of how you would approach a small-object tracking problem.
- Take-home exercise: a focused 3 to 4-hour task on a real (non-confidential) CV problem.
- Final call: with Movel AI leadership to align on terms and start date.
From application to offer: we aim for 1 to 2 weeks.
Questions?
If you are unsure whether you meet the bar for the role but the work sounds interesting, apply anyway with a note about which parts you are strong on and which parts you would need to ramp up on. Some of the strongest hires we have made were people we almost passed on because they lacked one specific line item.
