CONSUMER ADVOCACY VOLUNTEER PUBLIC PROTECTION & ADVOCACY BUREAU CONSUMER ADVOCACY & RESPONSE DIVISION (Boston Office) Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for dedicated, public-service oriented volunteers to join the Consumer Advocacy and Response Division (CARD) within the Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau at the Boston Massachusetts Office. CARD receives and reviews complaints, advocates on behalf of Massachusetts consumers, and implements settlements entered into by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) in various areas relating to the Office’s consumer protection efforts, including debt collection, mortgage lending and servicing, housing, automobile sales and lending, utilities, and professional services. The Division also provides referrals and other assistance to consumers, performs research, engages in community outreach, and participates in public education trainings. Please note : This is a volunteer position and is separate from student internship opportunities. Students interested in internships with the Attorney General's Office may find information on the application process on our main website under Internships at the Attorney General’s Office: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/internships-at-the-attorney-generals-office-ago Primary Duties : The Consumer Advocacy Volunteer is responsible for calling members of the public who have filed consumer complaints about online or telephone scams and providing timely, knowledgeable information about available resources to prevent scams or mitigate the harm caused by scams. This role requires developing a strong understanding of referral networks and community resources, asking appropriate screening questions to ensure the best possible referrals, and following established procedures for making external referrals. Time Commitment: Volunteers are expected to work in-person at the AGO’s Boston office, located at 100 Cambridge Street, for a minimum of two days each week, for a 3-hour shift each day. Volunteers are also expected to attend most weekly division staff meetings, which are at 10am on Wednesdays. Staff meetings may be attended in-person or remotely. Volunteer positions will be offered for an initial six-month period but may be renewed. Position Requirements : Experience working in a call-center or in a public-facing customer service role. Effective communication skills. Proficient organizational skills. Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain clear records of calls received. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. The ability to speak and understand Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is a plus. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.
