About Steidland Brands
Steidland Brands is a fast-growing omni-channel retailer generating approximately $50M in annual revenue, with a clear path to $100M over the next 12 months. We resell branded goods across all major U.S. marketplaces and hold the exclusive U.S. license for Kappa online.
We are building the infrastructure to become a turnkey partner for anyone who wants to sell online — spanning channel management, logistics and warehousing, marketing agency services, and equity/debt capital. As we scale, we need a hands-on financial leader who can build the systems, team, and reporting rigor to support that growth.
Position Summary
The Controller will own the company's core accounting operations and serve as a key financial partner to the executive team. This role is ideal for a commercially minded finance professional who understands how accounting connects to sales, supply chain, marketing, and capital decisions — not just someone who closes the books. The Controller will manage a remote bookkeeping team based in the Philippines, ensure our financials accurately reflect accrual-basis profitability, oversee tax compliance, manage cash flow forecasting across business units, and support lender compliance. This is a high-visibility role with a clear path to Chief Financial Officer as the company scales toward and beyond $100M in revenue.
Key Responsibilities
• Team Management: Lead and manage a remote bookkeeping team based in the Philippines; hire additional bookkeeping/accounting staff in that location as the business grows.
• Financial Reporting: Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financials are prepared accurately on an accrual basis, so reported profitability truly reflects business performance.
• Tax Compliance: Manage all tax liabilities and filings, including corporate income tax, payroll tax, and multi-state sales tax, working with outside advisors as needed.
• Cash Flow Forecasting: Prepare and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts for each business unit to support operational and strategic planning.
• AP/AR Management: Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including vendor terms, collections, and process controls.
• Lender Compliance: Manage reporting and covenant compliance for our lending relationships, including our line of credit and any associated borrowing base or covenant requirements.
• Strategic Partnership: Act as a strategic partner to the C-suite, translating financial data into actionable insights that inform pricing, channel investment, inventory, and capital allocation decisions.
• JV & Partnership Accounting: Manage accounting for joint venture and partnership arrangements, including profit-sharing calculations, partner reporting, and related reconciliations.
• Process & Controls: Build and continuously improve accounting processes, internal controls, and systems to support the company's growth from $50M to $100M+ in revenue and beyond.
Qualifications
Required
• CPA or CA designation required.
• Experience working within the accounting department of an inventory-based business (retail, wholesale, distribution, or CPG strongly preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to think commercially — understanding how accounting and financial reporting connect to sales, marketing, supply chain, and operations, not just technical bookkeeping.
• Hands-on experience managing accrual-basis accounting and ensuring financials accurately reflect underlying business profitability.
• Working knowledge of corporate income tax, payroll tax, and sales tax compliance.
• Experience preparing cash flow forecasts, ideally across multiple business units or entities.
• Experience managing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Experience with lender/bank reporting requirements, such as line-of-credit covenant compliance.
• Experience with joint venture or partnership accounting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage or oversee remote/outsourced teams; comfort hiring and building a team internationally, ideally in the Philippines.
• Ambition and demonstrated capability to grow into a CFO role.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial executives.
Preferred
• Prior experience in e-commerce, marketplace, or omni-channel retail.
• Experience working with licensed/branded goods or multi-brand portfolios.
• Experience supporting or participating in debt or equity capital raises.
• Familiarity with major marketplace platforms (Amazon, Walmart, etc.) and related revenue/fee accounting.
Compensation & Growth Path
This role offers a competitive base salary plus a performance-based bonus, commensurate with experience. Steidland Brands is committed to developing this position into a Chief Financial Officer role as the company scales, offering significant long-term growth and equity/leadership potential for the right candidate.
