Job Title: Copilot & Copilot Studio Governance Engineer Job Description This contract role focuses on designing, implementing, and operationalising robust governance for Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Copilot agents across the tenant. You will establish agent sharing and exemption controls, build and maintain an agent inventory and risk baseline, remediate high‑exposure agents, implement data‑protection controls, and enable safe, scalable adoption. A key outcome of the engagement is a self‑sustaining governance framework supported by clear documentation, runbooks, and effective knowledge transfer. Responsibilities Configure and maintain agent access, sharing, publishing, and lifecycle governance across the tenant, including an approved‑publisher model and exemption workflow in collaboration with Information Security. Design and operate agent sharing governance, including tenant‑wide restrictions and an exemption request and approval workflow, fully operational in the Microsoft 365 Copilot Control System. Govern Copilot Studio declarative and custom‑engine agents by configuring Managed Environments, environment routing, connector and data loss prevention (DLP) policies, and least‑privilege access controls. Build and maintain a comprehensive tenant‑wide agent registry and inventory, ensuring it remains complete and up to date. Develop and apply a transparent, repeatable risk‑scoring model for agents, assessing custom actions, data‑source scope, embedded files, sharing breadth, and labelling gaps. Baseline, prioritise, and remediate high‑exposure agents, including action‑taking and connector‑based agents and agents with embedded sensitivity labels, and ensure DLP is applied consistently across agents and their grounding data. Identify and close gaps in sensitivity labelling and DLP coverage across agents and associated data sources. Monitor pay‑as‑you‑go usage and Copilot Credits, define billing‑policy guardrails, and establish maker enablement guardrails to support safe and cost‑effective adoption. Create and maintain runbooks, standards, guardrails, and documentation that support ongoing governance operations and knowledge transfer. Align agent controls with organisational confidentiality requirements and client or matter obligations, including considerations related to ethical walls and matter security. Report governance status, risk posture, and remediation progress to IT leadership in a clear and timely manner. Produce maker guidance and best‑practice materials to support Desktop Experience and AI Solutions teams on agent access, configuration, and adoption. Collaborate with stakeholders across IT, security, and business teams to ensure governance policies are practical, well‑understood, and consistently applied. Contribute to the safe adoption of new Microsoft AI capabilities by embedding governance into day‑to‑day processes and tools. Essential Skills At least 5 years of hands‑on experience administering Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra, with recent, demonstrable focus on Copilot and/or Power Platform governance. Proven experience administering Microsoft 365 Copilot, including the Copilot Control System, and building and governing agents in Copilot Studio and Copilot Agent Builder. Strong proficiency with the Power Platform admin centre, including Managed Environments, DLP and connector policies, and environment strategy. In‑depth knowledge of Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels and data loss prevention, with experience operationalising controls and lifecycle processes at scale. Ability to automate administrative and governance tasks using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph. Excellent documentation skills, with the ability to produce clear runbooks, standards, and guidance for technical and non‑technical audiences. Strong stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to explain complex governance concepts and influence adoption of best practices. Demonstrated capability in effective knowledge transfer, enabling teams to own and sustain governance processes after the engagement. Solid communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as a team player. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Microsoft Copilot for security or related Copilot solutions and/or Microsoft Agent 365. Familiarity with ethical walls, matter security, and confidentiality‑sensitive access controls. Understanding of pay‑as‑you‑go metering models and Copilot Credits, including how to implement appropriate guardrails. Relevant Microsoft certifications, such as AI Administrator Associate, Power Platform, Security/Identity, or Information Protection/Purview certifications. Prior experience working in a law firm, professional services organisation, or another regulated, confidentiality‑sensitive environment. Comfort operating in high‑pressure, deadline‑driven settings where risk management and precision are critical. Why Work Here? You will work with cutting‑edge Microsoft AI technologies in a global, forward‑thinking environment that is actively investing in modern digital capabilities. The organisation values expertise, encourages innovation, and offers the opportunity to shape how advanced AI tools are governed and adopted at scale. You will gain deep exposure to complex, real‑world governance challenges and have the chance to leave a lasting impact through frameworks, standards, and practices that will continue beyond the contract. Work Environment This is a fully remote, full‑time role based in the United States, operating on standard US business hours with required overlap with Eastern Time. The engagement is a 6‑month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. You will work within a high‑pressure legal and professional services context where confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and matter security are central to daily operations.
