About the Role
Our client, an Australian building contractor, is looking for an experienced Cost Estimator to join their team. Ideally, you're someone who has worked directly for a builder (not a subcontractor) in Australia, understands local building industry requirements, and can take ownership of pricing and estimating work with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the business keep pace with an increasing flow of incoming projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs from architectural and construction drawings using Bluebeam.
• Develop and manage detailed cost estimates and pricing schedules in Excel.
• Independently manage pricing tasks end-to-end, applying sound judgement built from hands-on Australian building industry experience.
• Liaise with the estimating and broader project team to ensure pricing accuracy, consistency, and turnaround aligned with project timelines.
• Apply current knowledge of Australian material costs, trade rates, and building practices to keep estimates accurate and competitive.
• Support the team in handling a growing volume of project pricing as workload increases.
Required Experience & Skills
• Proven cost estimating experience gained working directly for an Australian builder (residential and/or commercial).
• Strong working knowledge of the Australian building industry, including standard practices, terminology, and cost benchmarks.
• Demonstrated ability to manage pricing and estimating tasks independently, with minimal onboarding or oversight.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam for takeoffs and PDF-based document markup.
• Advanced Excel skills for pricing, data handling, and estimate preparation.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy under project deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for liaising with an Australian-based client team.
Ideal Candidate Profile
• Has worked as a Cost Estimator directly employed by an Australian builder, not solely by a subcontractor.
• Can be trusted to manage pricing independently from day one, with limited ramp-up time.
• Brings current, hands-on familiarity with Australian residential and/or commercial building requirements.
• Is confident and efficient using Bluebeam and Excel as the primary tools of the role.
