ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Smalls is looking for a creative director in Singapore, whose important role bridges our diverse filmmaking community and our impressive brand partners. This role entails crafting original, strategic ideas and pitches for branded content, alongside being one of our friendly guardians for creative quality control across the APAC office.
The successful candidate will be called upon for direct-to-client, agency-style creative, helping The Smalls to pitch for new business and win projects with exciting brands and publishers. They will also manage the quality of existing projects according to each client’s brand strategy and key goals.
As we specialise in video, knowledge of how production works is key when it comes to pitching concepts that are well suited to the budget and timeline in play (which can vary from 30k to 500k and beyond).
And, because most of our content sits on social, experience with social strategy and working with audience and channel insights will be required to back their ideas/executions.
Please note that independence is required to complete our creative projects in a fast-paced but remote setting. The successful candidate will work within small pods, typically consisting of a producer, project manager and creative (this role). This is a nimble, transparent setting where proactivity is a must.
There may be some agency content creation within this position, as we work together to market ourselves and continue our exciting growth in this market.
The role will be based in the Singapore office. The Smalls operates a WFH setting, with co-working passes and regular meet ups.
This role reports to the ECD/MD.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To develop creative, strategically-sound concepts for incoming briefs - across multiple APAC markets and budgets - forming imaginative pitches to clients in a clear and concise manner, aiding in the conversion of briefs to business.
- Distill briefs from a strategic POV and align on strategy with social best in class in mind, before diving into ideas
- To pitch your ideas to clients - explaining your ideas and even helping to brainstorm on the spot, to get a sense of clients and explore what works for them (or doesn’t!)
- To take responsibility for the creative quality control of the end to end process - particularly the elements the Smalls can best influence (ideation, shoot treatment and post production).
- To attend shoots and ensure production runs smoothly and honours promised creative treatment/quality
- To review edits at each stage and ensure videos are visually excellent, narratives are engaging and original strategy is met before edits reach the client at each stage
- To identify potential creative issues in the treatment, production and post production phase - and escalate to team and problem solve before client is impacted
- To form trusting relationships with clients, offering education and advice regarding best in class creative, to establish trust and gain more freedom to produce the best possible content

- Intuition to assess and determine where community partners need more (or less) support creatively.
- Open communication with team members so creative expectations and the processes to get there are internally aligned.
- Comfortable with communicating with teammates in a remote setting - proactively organising and leading conversations around projects when support is needed.
- Appreciation of independence and flexibility to reach everyday goals around pitches and execution of projects.
