Transit Development (TD), within NYC DOT’s Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM), is responsible for developing public transit-supportive street infrastructure and policies to improve mobility for all New Yorkers The unit manages the bus-related components of the NYC Streets Plan, including the Bus Action Plan and transit policy initiatives and develops location-specific projects to help the quality and safety of bus operations, and to improve pedestrian access to transit. TD also serves as a resource to the agency on public transit related matters, including acting as one of the key points of contact with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). TPM seeks a candidate to serve as a Data Analyst within the Planning and Policy team of TD. The candidate will primarily assist with data analysis to support the Unit’s Transit Signal Priority (TSP) program. Within NYC DOT, the Transit Development Unit is responsible for planning and overseeing the TSP program, while NYC DOT’s Traffic Operations division (TO) is responsible for implementation and maintenance of program components. The agency also works closely with the MTA on the TSP program, and data analytics will need to be closely coordinated with these other groups. For TSP, the candidate will collaborate with internal and external agency staff to develop future priority corridors, monitor and evaluate the performance of existing corridors, and identify opportunities to improve TSP effectiveness through data exploration and analysis. The candidate may also assist with other data-driven assignments pertaining to Real Time Passenger Information, automated enforcement, bus shelters and bus stops, and related prioritization analyses, and other related transit priority related work. Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility, and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. Preferred Skills The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to perform quantitative analysis preferably with public transit data and/or design aptitude, strong written and verbal skills, including delivering presentations, and should exhibit a capacity for problem-solving. Experience with CAD, Synchro, and/or GIS desirable.
