Data Analytics Contractor - Data Stewardship & Metadata

Job Title: Data Analytics Contractor – Data Stewardship & Metadata Location: Chicago, IL Compensation: $120,000 - $180,000 annually before taxes and any applicable benefits or deductions. About the role We are seeking an experienced Data Analytics Contractor to support a Deloitte project team focused on data inventory, metadata documentation, data-quality analysis, and cloud-data readiness. This role will analyze and interpret complex datasets, identify data gaps and control issues, and help establish a reliable foundation for future-state data architecture and Bronze Layer readiness. The ideal candidate combines hands-on data analysis and data stewardship experience with strong documentation discipline. Experience supporting actuarial, valuation, insurance, finance, or controller functions is highly preferred, as this work will directly support actuaries and Controllers within OCA. Key Responsibilities Collect, process, profile, and analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, inconsistencies, and actionable insights. Inventory metadata and source data across in-scope databases, initially including FN and FR. Document detailed source-system inputs, data lineage, data movement, controls, and downstream reporting dependencies. Compare data elements across FN, FR, AVD, LTC, and GPR to identify common fields, differences, normalization requirements, and alignment opportunities. Compare source-system inputs with data currently available in the cloud and Databricks environments. Identify data gaps, quality issues, missing attributes, reconciliation requirements, and control gaps. Support the development and maintenance of data models, dashboards, reports, and analytical outputs as needed. Create and maintain data dictionaries, including business definitions, naming conventions, metric definitions, business rules, and data-element ownership. Perform data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity. Develop source-to-target mapping documentation to support cloud migration, data integration, and future-state data design. Partner with Data Architects, Data Modelers, Pipeline Engineers, database SMEs, actuarial SMEs, Controllers, and project leadership. Support Bronze Layer readiness and contribute to future-state cloud and Databricks data design. Required Qualifications Strong experience in data analytics, data stewardship, data governance, business analysis, or data management. Experience profiling data and documenting metadata, data lineage, source-to-target mappings, and data dictionaries. Demonstrated ability to identify data-quality issues, reconciliation needs, missing attributes, control gaps, and normalization requirements. Experience working with multiple source systems and comparing data across databases, platforms, or reporting environments. Ability to translate technical data findings into clear documentation for both technical and business stakeholders. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including data engineering, architecture, business SMEs, and project leadership. Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving ability, and documentation skills. Familiarity with cloud data environments and Databricks. Preferred Qualifications Actuarial, valuation, insurance, finance, or controller-function experience. Experience supporting financial, regulatory, actuarial, or enterprise reporting data. Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data controls, and reconciliation processes. Experience with SQL, Databricks, cloud data platforms, or data-visualization/reporting tools. Experience working on data modernization, cloud migration, or data-platform transformation initiatives. Success Measures Complete and accurate inventory of in-scope source data and metadata. Clear documentation of data lineage, source-to-target mappings, controls, and downstream reporting dependencies. Identification and prioritization of critical data-quality, reconciliation, and control gaps. Creation of usable data dictionaries and standardized business definitions. Improved readiness for Bronze Layer ingestion and future-state cloud-data design. Effective partnership with technical teams, actuarial SMEs, Controllers, and project leadership.
