About the Data Engineering & Analytics Intern: MarketStar is looking for a part-time Data Engineering & Analytics Intern to join our team to work directly with our data engineering and data analytics leads to support internal company analysis projects that help MarketStar leaders make better decisions. The work spans the full path from raw data to insight. You will help pull and combine data from a variety of internal systems, including Workday, our Voice-of-the-Customer platforms, and other operational and financial tools; clean and reconcile that data so it can be trusted; and then dig into the combined set to answer real business questions. This is a remote opportunity with flexible hours and days, designed to fit around a class schedule or other commitments. We are looking for aptitude and curiosity more than experience. Where there are gaps, we will teach you. Location: US - Remote What Will You Do? Partner with our data engineering and data analytics leads on internal company analysis projects, from framing the question through delivering the finished analysis. Pull data from a variety of internal systems, including Workday, Voice-of-the-Customer platforms, and other operational tools, and bring it together into a single usable set. Perform data clean-up: resolve duplicates and missing values, standardize fields, reconcile records that do not match across systems, and document the decisions made along the way. Assist with data engineering tasks such as building and maintaining straightforward workflows, imports, and integrations that keep the combined data current. Conduct in-depth analysis of the combined data to identify trends, patterns, and drivers that leadership can act on. Build and maintain reports and dashboards, primarily in Power BI and Excel, that make findings easy for non-technical audiences to understand. Document data models, sources, and metadata in a centralized repository so the work can be reused by other teams. Summarize results in short written recaps and informal presentations to project stakeholders. Understand and follow all security, privacy, and confidentiality requirements when working with employee, customer, and client data. Actively engage with the team while working in a remote environment by asking questions early, sharing progress, and contributing in team meetings. Other applicable duties as assigned. What's in It for You? Hands-on experience with real internal company analysis projects rather than busywork . Direct mentorship from our data engineering and data analytics leads. Constant learning and an entrepreneurial growth mindset. A fully remote role with flexible hours and days that can work around a class schedule. Customized training programs that are catered to personal and professional development. An opportunity to be associated with the world's leading brands as clients. To be a part of an organization with more than 60% of homegrown leaders. What Will You Need to Succeed? Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or a similar field. Some exposure to querying data with SQL, or a willingness to learn it quickly; comfort with joins and aggregations is a plus. Familiarity with Python, or a similar language for working with data, is preferred but not required . Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and charts. Some experience with a data visualization tool such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker, or an interest in learning one. Exposure to basic data cleaning and transformation concepts, APIs, or cloud data tools such as Azure is a plus. An interest in statistics and analytical methods, with a willingness to apply them under guidance. Solid written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to explain technical work in plain language. Curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to ask questions and learn new tools and technologies. Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage your own schedule, and stay connected with a distributed team.
