The Data Curator will perform advanced metadata curation and quality review for biomedical publication records. This role applies independent judgment to complex citation review, research funding identification, publication relationship validation, and data quality activities while supporting process refinements and guidance for less experienced staff. Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed review and curation of bibliographic citation records and associated publication metadata. Analyze journal articles to identify research funding support, grant indicators, funding agencies, and grant numbers. Review and document secondary source identifiers, data repository references, and clinical trial identifiers. Establish, validate, or review relationships among related publication records, including errata, comments, corrections, and retractions. Apply journal-specific editing instructions, processing codes, data curation standards, and quality control expectations. Perform quality assurance checks and identify data quality trends, recurring issues, or opportunities for process improvement. Maintain productivity and quality standards in a high-volume production environment. Provide informal guidance, onboarding support, or escalation assistance for Data Curator I staff, as needed. Communicate workflow issues, recommendations, and procedural refinements to project leadership. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in library science, Information Science, Life Sciences, Public Health, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Research Administration, Data Management, or a related discipline. 3+ years of experience in metadata management, data curation, research support, scientific publishing, library services, content management, or information quality review. 2+ years' experience analyzing structured and unstructured information and applying detailed business rules or curation guidelines. 2+ years' experience with biomedical literature, research databases, scholarly communications, or scientific publishing workflows. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to manage complex workloads while maintaining productivity and quality standards. Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a remote/telework environment. Familiarity with XML, metadata standards, digital repositories, clinical trial registries, or grant administration concepts. Knowledge of NIH-funded research, U.S. Public Health Service agencies, or research data management. Experience supporting quality control, quality assurance, or continuous improvement activities.
